Ok PCnaughts, make me a top spec games computer for less than a console price!
I have recently just signed up to Steam... loads of games... can only play half of them as I have a 7.2 iMac
But my PS3 is now 7 years old (not including the fact I had to replace it once
) and there isn't any plans to replace it for another 3 years
But then again rumours still persist that the PS4 may be announced this summer.
But I digress.
There have been dozens of threads on this site about consoles vs PC's and all that and the PC crew all saying you could build a top spec PC for the same or less than a console.
My challenge to you all is, prove it, make it cheaper than a console.
Now assuming that the PS4 is launched this year and it sells for £500, that is your target. To make a top spec Games PC on that budget.
You have to assume that
i) Nothing but precision screwdrivers are available for this PC build. If you have to get anything else it MUST come out of the £500 budget.
ii) Any part you source for this project must be evidenced by link to the appropriate online store selling that piece of hardware and all prices MUST include postage.
iii) You cannot exceed the £500 limit.
Go!

bugger came in at £600
i5 2500 quad core sec generation..
asus mobo z68 ...
8gb ram. ..
6850 gfx card ...
500gb hdd..
optical drive...
500w psu..
case ..
could reduce a few specs .. but i wouldnt say no to that as a build . ...
but then you can enhance that later on by upgrading to a bigger gfx card or adding another identical one ...
cant upgrade a games console..
or repair it easily, have to send it away or get another ...
and you can do all your normal pc stuff ..
so at the moment you have a normal computer and a games console ?
so what did they both cost you ?
might be worth thinking that with that "extra" cost of a computer and gamesconsole, what would i have to spend to do the same again.. another £350 on a computer?
i await an upgraded budget ...

to be fair, although it might be £100 more then a new ps4, the spec of a new console wouldn't even get close to this
As said, you will never get a top spec gaming pc for £500, unless you steal most of it. But for £500 it'll still out-perform any console.
