Default Can you get series 1 rear spoilers in fibreglass?

Stripping down my series 1 for the paint shop I notcied the rear spoiler is mega mega heavy and seeing as I want to sprint/quartermile this car I need to lose weight esp from the rear. I've tried most places but can't find a replica in lighter material can anyone suggest anywhere??
Its got to have the rear spoiler other wise it won't look like a series 1!!

.....and no to the cossie fins lol

I had a Fibreglass one on my old car, they look ok, but you dont get the cut out in the spoiler as they cant make it with the gap, the cut out I'm talking about is the one you can see when you look at the car from behind, the gap between the top and bottom of the spoiler, also the one I had didnt have the correct curve for the bootlid so was a bit of a pig to fit.

I know the spoiler is heavy but I would keep it, see if you can get a fibreglass tailgate instead, and maybe some perspex windows to help with weight

I've found a Fibreglass tailgate and perpex/polycarb rear window and that was the original plan but that spoiler just weighs a ton! ...But theres not a chance in hell of me ruining the looks of the Standard S1 kit. Was thinking of maybe lightening it instead by removing rubber from underneath the spoiler but would that effect it?

I dont think you will be able to cut much out of the rubber and keep the spoiler stable.

If you are really hell bent on making it lighter, then get an old spoiler from a 3i or something and cut off the raised bit of the spoiler, then make a mold of what you have left, and make your own one, then make a 2 part mold of the bit you cut off and then fibreglass the 2 bits together and you will have a correct spoiler, or just buy a fibreglass one and make do with out the gap... or get a fibreglass 90 spec spoiler which would look quiet nice.

Or just really practise your starts so you dont have to worrk about a 7kg spoiler

Good luck

how about getting a carbon fiber one? Carbon Creations should be able to make you one, and I think black on white would look the tits

Thanks for the suggestions. i think i will leave it standard to start with and see how I get on. I think the fibreglass tailgate will be a must has anyone any experiance of fibreglass tailgates? MC Rallying do the tailgate, doors and bonnet. i wonder about the fit quality in the sense is water gonna piss through the rubbers in the rain! Guess there is only one way to find out!

I Have one on my car. Its held on with 4 bonnet pins and i've kept the rubber. There are no leaks or anything. Just a nice lightweight replacement to the original
Go for it.
