why will my sapphire only run with plug leads wrong
just replaced head gasket on my cosworth and forgot to mark rotor arm pully so set it up to the line as supposed to and now the car will only run with plug leads 4321 instead of 1234 why would this be please help
the leads on dizzy are spot on and timing is set up same as in manual its just plug leads should go 1234 in head but only runs 4321 in head i timed the rotor arm to the little notch the metal bit on rotor arm is spot on with the notch
Take all the leads off and put then on the head end first, then that way your numbers will be in the right order, you obviously have them back to front currently.
right today iv changed the rotor arm around the other way and no joy iv tried everything really and it will only run 4321 and at about 1500rpm it holds back i dont know whats happening iv rebuilt many cars before and never came across this
Take cam cover off so you can see the valves opening and shutting, turn it around until you can see each cylinder going to the end of the compression stroke, and see which post on the dizzy cap the rotor arm is pointing at for each one and it will show you which lead goes where.
Sounds like when you did the belt though, you didnt properly line up the dizzy drive pulley or the dizzy itself.
just want it back how it was really also its got adjustable cam pulleys and they had no timing marks so made my own if they was both a tooth out would it cause this to happen?
you need to start from the begining pull all the plugs out roll the motor till number 1 is up top them look where all the timing marks are they need to be 100% right
pmsl avoid working on engines i rebuild bmw scoobys 200sx rs turbos ect ect before with no problems and i mean full engine rebuilds its obviously something stupid but its finding it
the plugs are numbered and the go in rocker cover 1234
yes thats right they go down the rocker cover as 1234 but thats not the firing order as has been said its 1342 which you can work out of the rotor arm and the dizzy cap
with the plugs out and put the bottom pully on it TDC check the top pully,s then check aux pully that its timed up on the center of the harf moon then check the rotor arm to see that its lined up with the small cut in the dizzy and all so when timing it up and the begining check that number 1 is at TDC if it still will not run you are rong on the HT leads on the cap
You have got the timing 180 out. The cam pulleys have twice as many lobes as the crank pulley, so it takes 2 turns of the crank to turn the cams once.
If you look at your picture it will show you that when you fit the leads 4321 on the head no 4 is then TDC So when the rotor arm turns clockwise as in the diagram the firing order is 4231 whitch is the same as 1342.
Like this normal TDC 1342
90 out 3421
180 out 4213
270 out 2134
back to 360 1342
