My old man has had both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee, both were petrol versions.
His preference was the Cherokee because it was more robust than the Grand Cherokee, his Grand ate tyres and brakes for fun also the front diff decided to munch itself up resulting in a very hefty bill (even at mates rates) thats when he sold it and went back to Land Rover for another Discovery.
Agree with Mark RS about them being thirsty and the values dropping like a stone.

Well I've had a couple and NEVER gave me any bother:
Had the GC 5.2 V8, 5.9 V8 and the 2.7 Diesel.
Did LOADS of miles, utter comfy, reliable mechanics just the odd swith and such that would act up.
Thirsty allright but what do you expect?
