Palmersport - Bedford
Beds RSOC day probably did a few of the trackday boys in - as they were strict on noise (but not that strict
)
BUT
loads of different cars/drivers in an open pit lane format, I saw ONLY 1 RED FLAG, due to oil/fuel on the track and that only took 5 mins.
VERY well managed track indeed, I'm sure BedsRSOC understand that was quite an achievement.
Maybe it was down to sensible driving, tho'?
Cheers

Sounds like a JET engine when its on boost!
Does sound very very cool as well.
Can't believe you didn't get kicked off though
Good to see you giving your car a sound caning all day

Only 1 bar you said and then stomped on the accelerator up the back straight
Awesome mate. Really appreciated the ride
The red flag was due to Matt loosing his oil filler bung outta his 4x4 Saff Cossie's gearbox...... funny thing is the last time it was out was ages ago so fook knows how it came undone after all this time
yeah i thought i better move over for you newts,i thought you was gonna try and take me on the pit lane staight, think you must have changed your mind after seeing the side of my car

After me 1st few laps in the morning I had to turn the boost to below 20psi to shut it up, then near the end they flagged me again n told me it was to loud again lol
Still I had a days worth out of it so I wasnt to bothered
Whens the next event is what I want to know
Dave4x4 - your induction noise was far louder than the exhaust. It was very easy to hear when you went down the pit straight
The car looks nicely setup and was getting a right caning - nice one. You're going to want some slicks tho' if you want to go faster.
Pops - I try to refrain from doing people on the brakes "track days are about fun - not racing"
Your wheels look better when covered in brake dust.
Totally enjoyed myself, even tho' I was dying of flu. My car will be in the FOR SALE section shortly
due to home improvements
.
Porkie - you still gotta show me around in the 3dr, even if I have to grow tits, you cheap ho'
Same time next year then???

Newts,
LOL,
Not really into slicks as i like to slide the car around.
not intrested in going faster either, fast enough really, just need to put slicks on the front to stop the understeer.

erm, slicks can slide too
just at higher speed. Slicks just on the front sounds interesting tho'
would like to see that! Not on mine tho' as she's up for sale now

I'll have to see how much money I have left once I've played with property. Hopefully next year in a full track car on a trailer - no compromise, but who knows? Maybe I'll have something this Summer.
I'll still try to get along to some track days, so maybe I'll sponge a few laps from you.
Cheers

Had a great day in my little Lotus. I must admit that on the drive there I was thinking that this would be the moment of truth and had I done the right thing opting out of my cossie.
But from about the third corner on I had no regrets, the little thing is mint. Nobody overtook me all day, although there were cars that were faster in a straight line. But even though I was on road tyres and had standard suspension, nothing touched it in the corners. I was coming round the last bend onto the pit straight at over 100mph and it loved it, apart from once when it all went a bit "Pete Tong"
But hey as the saying goes, if you aint spinnin every now and then, you aint trying!! My top speed down the back straight was just over 120mph, so not a million mils away from the big boys.
Had a few noise isues though, was 99db on the static test and got clocked three times at 88db on the drive by, so that was why I was crawling round the first bend past the mic, and on the back straight by the 2nd mic. So in the end noise called an end to my day, but not until after doing just over 100 track miles and all with no problems what so ever.
My next plans are to try and quieten it down a bit, as eventhough I reckon I would be OK at other tracks, Bedford is one of my favourites so I want it to be able to pass there without any issues.
I was also worried about the brakes a bit as they are a lot smaller to what I am used to. I mean adding up all of the pistons in all of the callipers on the whole car still comes to less than the number of pistons I had in one calliper on my Escort, but I had some good pads in and SRF and braided lines and the brakes were mint all day, without any hint of fade at all.
Went out with Mike in his Escort, very fast, apart from hitting a foookin cone because we thought we were being black flagged.
Big up Newts for sorting my pass, and once again a big thanks to the organisers for giving us all a great day.

Sean Bicknell,
it was me getting black flagged because my indicator was hanging out.
Mike damaged the splitter with the first cone he hit and knocked it about 30ft in the air nearly hitting me behind you, lol.
Dave.

Donnington are knocking down the pits and building new ones and a new control tower at the end of the year

Do a track day there honestly mate you would love it (full gt circuit) , ask herman (lee) thats was his first time on there he loved it to bits .. it's a proper track , no blind corners 3.8 mile per lap , smooth as a babys bottom has to be the best track in the country , they are a bit strict thats the only downside with bedford
apart from that it's pukka

I know mate , and i wouldn't shoot you down mate either
you are a rally driver, i suppose any track would be boaring for you as there no trees to miss , only smooth tarmac but still would be ideal for tesing your car out i suppose
see to be honest Tony i would love to have a bash or to do a tarmac rally stage
to be honest i would smash the car to bits at a dodgy corner or come off the rd into a bank , if i was to Write it off ,it's all over i suppose for me at least on track if you come off 9 times out of 10 you get away with it , but when doing a rally stage and come off normaly the worst happens
i do admire rally drivers tho they are the best drivers in the world to be honest

We have a co-driver telling us what's ahead and can drive the car to either what we hear or can see. Being told its totally flat over a blind crest and having 100% faith in what your hearing is fun to me, not driving the same wide flat corner all day long. Like you say good for testing tho'
Im not knocking them as you gain a lot of car control and handling skills from trackdays. They certainly have there place.
Tony,
I know exactly what you mean, and with Bedford being "featureless", it does tend to be a little more reserved as a cicuit. For example, Donnington is just something else when you power down through Craner...........
However, what Bedford loses in lack of features, it gains in the fun factor for me. I push the limits of my car soooo much harder at Bedford than any other track, as there is so little to hit.
I find track driving is an extension of fast road driving in some respects where rallying is an entirely different discipline.
Sean - that car looked so flat through the corners - I think you did make the right choice though. Was gutted I didn't get a chance to get a passenger lap - next time though

cossy abuser,i was wondering who that 3 door belonged to,it was going really well,i was in the blue type-r impreza,we had a bit of a do for a bit, that was until the back straight and you made it look as if i was going backwards
what sort of power is it?
