Red face Escort gti power loss

Hi guys.. can someone help me?

Got R reg escort gti. The mass air flow meter is unplugged and has been for some time. However, the last few days at about 2,500-3,000.00 rpm the power just goes flat. Anybody got any ideas what it could be?

It does need new cat section of the exhaust which is being fitted the weekend, could it be the clutch slipping because when you rev it in neutral the engine sounds fine.

Many Thanks.

the car is no doubt running rough as you have a faulty maf by the sounds of it as escort ecus are learning ones and a crap cat wont help either, try again once you have a new cat

Leaving the MAF unplugged will cause running issues. You don't really want unmetered air going into the engine. I'd be sorting that out before looking to blame something else.
