Default racing a 1.6cvh na advise please

hi guys im going into short oval racing next year and was looking for some advice on engine work here are the engine rules, it must be a na 1.6cvh too

♦ Only STANDARD OHV or CVH engines up to nominal 1600cc with a maximum of 2 valves per cylinder shall be
fitted.
♦ Standard bore is 80.98 mm OHV and 79.96mm CVH.
♦ Maximum overbore allowed is 1.5mm.
♦ The stroke measurement must be standard, which is 77.62mm OHV and 79.52mm CVH.
♦ Pistons must be standard – no modifications. Piston and rings may be size matched with the appropriate
overbore as specified above.
♦ Fly wheels must be standard – no lightening allowed.
♦ Air filters are free.
♦ Alternators may be removed.
♦ The engine must be fitted with a metal catch tank of 1 litre minimum capacity connected to the engine breather
system.
♦ Only standard Ford Camshaft allowed, or a replacement item with the same geometry (lift, duration etc). No
Diesel parts allowed.
♦ The centre of the cam gear must be visible. You must either remove the top cam-belt cover completely or a
hole must be cut in the cover to allow sight of the centre of the cam gear.
♦ The inlet and exhaust manifolds must be standard Ford only. These may be de-carbonised but not highly
polished or ported ie. No removal of casting marks etc.
♦ Sumps may be baffled to prevent oil wash away from oil pick up point.

8. CARBURETTOR
♦ Up to 24mm/25mm maximum choke size from Escort, Fiesta or Orion only.
♦ No twin 40’s etc or any other carburettor from any other car.
♦ Cold start devices may be removed.
♦ Re-jetting is permitted

i know there isnt alot i can do but are there models with better cams/manifolds/pistons as standard , can i mix and match some parts from across the range to get a decent powered na engine,

with it being a short circuit i probable wont ever get out of 2nd/3rd gear, so top end isnt important but acceleration is

cheers guys

EFI CVH cam is the best N/A camshaft. Not much else you can do by the looks of it!

No mention of minimum head thickness so presumably you can skim it to up the compression?

Mappable ignition allowed?

early xr carb and 3i manifold/dpipe xhatched heads are best std casting, maybe a diesel box would mean less changes if you can use one

how much money do you want to spend?? will prob be similar rules to the fiesta challenge championship and the is plenty variations in heads, inlet manifolds carbs and a proper blueprint build and setup. i cant remember off hand all the best bits but i think its early xr2 carb your after.

you should be able to balance the engine ie; comp chamber size weight of rod and pistons ,do a rebore ,and yer the early xr carbs were ok, just though you may allso be able to have cut backs on the valves and cut down guides

find an xr2 challenge engine builder, theyll know the tricks/bits to use.
do you know anyone with a flowbench? with single make things its all about going through manifolds/heads etc to find the best flowing stuff....their is a fair difference.and building it meticulosly. try puma race engines or b+j racing engines(think thats what was in mine)

The regs for some disciplines say you cannot remove material from the head, I don't know how they'd take you porting the head and welding the swarfe back on somewhere else lol
