Default Black number plates

Hi guys

After my car accident yesterday, I need a new front numberplate, and want to get a classic style one that has the white writing on a black background.

Now officially, only cars that were first made before 1973 are allowed to have black plates. While my car was first made in 1983, i really fancy one.

Do you think its something i could get away with, or would i be ripped a new arsehole if cought? i see cars driving around with small plates and incorect letter spacing all the time so what are my chances??

J.

My black plates cost me £60 in fines and the Embarrassment of being pulled over by a riot van in front of 1000 football fans!!!

that said i got away with them for 3 years

Black and silver does really stand out. I opted for a German style front plate but a totally legal and standard back plate. Theory being that if they're behind me they'll see nothing wrong and as I'm old they don't seem to deem me worthy of a stop anymore.

If they're going to spot it coming the other way they have to turn round and they just can't be bothered. It also doesn't ping up on ANPR as the cameras can read it.

I actually had to chuckle to myself earlier this year when I had to go to a police station for a meeting and my car was sat in their car park for a morning next to the traffic cars with its moody numberplate

I had a set on my Sierra for ages and never got pulled once, they looked smart because the Sierra was flint grey.

They do tend to only suit certain cars imo.

Been there done it and got the fine on a black Alpha 33 Ti Veloce years ago.Looked ace imo but traffic police disagree.Must say I was tempted to put them on my black Sapp.I remember seeing Loaders old sapp (now Matts) with em on.

I drove around with them for ages with no probs... Even got followed by a patrol car with no issues...
However, I got sick of being nervous about them the while time so run normal plates now

Like fuck All they have to do is sell them with "show use only" and that's them covered and you can at worst get a £1000 fine. To be honest you are very unlikely to get anything other than a fixed penalty of £60 as it's just too much paperwork for the police to bother with

Can't sell them for "show use only" mate. It's been against the law since 1st November 2008.
So that's us well covered

And it's a £2500 fine and chucked off the register if we print "moody" plates.
