Got an astra with blocked mani cat can i just cut the thing open rip the guts out of it and weld the cat back up so it becomes a empty box or will it cause running problems.

it will more than likely fail emission regs at mot time and quite possibly cause running issues as all these are now tied into the ecu

i'd get down the scrapyard and see if you can get one from there - i sold the cat off my astra diesel for only 20 quid

Wouldnt worry about it phil, i beat the cat out of my 1.8 a year ago and its still mint. Mine is a 98 one and only has a sensor before the cat though.

The only other thing to break was the egr valve which is now blanked off.
