Default MOT People - Help required RE MOT's and Imports with no CAT.

I recently bought a 1993 Mk1 Golf Gti cabrio. It was first registered in Jersey and was imported into the UK in 2003. From what I can see it has never had a CAT and my MOT bloke agreed so put it through the non-cat equipped test. It actually failed as it was slightly over the Co levels. A slight tweak and it should sneak though. The problem is next year though as it should really go through a CAT equipped test?

What are the rules regarding CAT tests and imported vehicles, do they still apply?

If the car never left the factory with one, then it does not need one.

Pretty sure that even proper UK cars, there was a handful to around 1994 or so that didnt have cats fitted despite the rule changes at the time.

They only made the mk1's til circa 85 didn't they? If so, when it fails the initial BET there won't be an exact vehicle match on the emissions computer and it'll revert to a non-CAT test

They never made a MK2 convertible, so I think the MK1 continued for longer than the regular hard top ?

Although true, 1993 does sound quite long.
