Default Cosworth YB Boost, Power & Torque Limits

We have a couple of Cosworth YBs which run in competition and on trackdays. 34mm inlet restrictors are fitted to conform with stage rally regs. Engines have earlier 205 blocks and current turbo is hybrid T3/T35.

Just like to call on the experience of other YB owners. What level on boost, power and torque do you achieve reliably with a standard engine under fast track conditions? What relatively cheap mods have you made to make YB reliable at higher boost and power? I know there are £30k YB engines available but that's way outside my budget.

For starters we run up to 1.5 bar boost and get between 270 and 300hp (34mm restrictor). Peak torque remains a mystery.

It such relatively low power levels, I cant see any reason why you'd need to touch the engine at all to make it reliable. Nothing should be stressed at all.

Increasing CR and improving the std intercooler might be worthwhile though if you are allowed to.

For the race series that you are going to enter, do you have to run Restrictors?

Guessing you dont?

For circuit racing make sure you have a good baffled sump. Or Preferably gated and big winged if budget allows

Will dig you out a picture of mine in a min.

and as Stevie mentioned get the very best Intercooler/chargecooler solution you possibly can.

Think the series he wants to race in, is ok without restrictor mate.

see here I told him to register on here... as you guys are the experts!

I think he would be better off fitting a bigger Turbo rather than ragging the current one.... you can run less boost for more power = less heat and less problems. Well thats my thoughts!
