the input for the dash is a serial connector but the programming port on the ecu is usb is it as simple to use a serial to usb conversion cable??

Try it - some stuff works with a converter - some doesn't.

If you get stuck, give me a shout - i've got Race Technology software on my laptop and a serial port

Ah,

My apologies - I misread!

What ECU are you running?

emerald but not sure what to do now ive bought a wsb 2008 r1 engine and i think im going to struggle finding an ecu around the same price as the emerald to run those tricky throttle bodys. unless i just dont use the variable trumpet lengths but seems a shame! just weighing up my options as the aftermarket bike ecu uses usb rather than serial. if i went with the bike route was just wandering if i could get the dash to communicate with it. cheers will!

How are the variable length runners controlled? I'm assuming its on a servo motor?

You can get DC Stepper Motor idle valve outputs on some ECUs - that would be more suited than what I suspect will be a PWM output.

Alternatively, I can put you in touch with a company that can do you a Drive By Wire compatible ECU - it would just be a case of wiring the output to operate the trumpets motor rather than the throttle butterfly...

But then you could map the trumpet length against load and engine speed!

just because the dash has a serial connector (9 pin sub D?) doesn't mean it needs a serial datastream. that type of connector is also commonly used for CAN. but i presume that you know it does need a serial datastream or you wouldn't be asking?
