Hi people, on the passenger side inner wing on my 3 door it has a patch of rust thats been there for around 6 years ,it had never got any worse so i just left it, its where the header thank scews in below the ignition amp. now the header tank has come unscrewd i want to get this repaired but cant stand filler etc so how much do you think i would be looking at spending?? i would take all the parts off ie tank,coil , (just so i know the bodyshop cant go for a little drive

 

I had my whole bay painted for Ł80 but I did all the prep work etc and supplied the paint

 

The rust can b worse than it looks mate,mine was Lol

Its the size of a 50 pence piece mate so no drama's lol i just want it sorted

 

It's double skinned round turrets and what is 50p sized could be a lot bigger when you have a proper look, a dremel is ideal with cutting discs to cut it out, then you can get a piece butt welded in. Mine had to have a small repair there but fortunately for me it was a very small piece. Investigate it yourself and cut out the rot at least then you know bodyshop won't cover anything up

 

Once it's cleaned up and weld ( if it's that bad under the skin) then get it leaded not filled if your a bit fussy

 

Ive just been quoted Ł580 for both inner wings to be repaired and painted,along with the roof rails as the paint in them has also cracked This is to be leaded and not filled too

 

i stripped my 3dr as it had rust on the inner wings

 

Well mine had a bit of rust under the headet tank mount & 'little' bit elsewhere which can be seen on my thread showing the excellent work by special k

Just hope you don't have more like I did.....

 

So do i mate but the car will be in good hands

 

My car goes to the bodyshop tomorrow ,so ive started takeing bits out the engine bay,would it be ok to drive the car without the air box for about 1 mile?
