Default Jeep Grand Cherokee

Anyone have any experience owning/running on these 4x4 beasties?

Looking at the 2.7td which seems to only come in auto. I'm sure there the Merc unit but what about the autobox? Anything to look out for, electrical, mechanical, etc
They don't seem the most economical thing in the world to drive/own even for a derv but mileage won't be a lot. Did consider the petrol but not sure if I could live with that. I don't tow and it will just be a local smoker and hopefully something that will get through the snow - if we get any this Christmas time.

Most of them seem pretty good spec.

ha ha @ hole in the tank

I've been looking at 00-04 models. Not been too bothered with spec as the base model is pretty loaded with goodies.

Noisy common rail, poor economy, barge like handling, extortionate parts prices, on the plus side cheap, good spec inside, if you really want one i would go for a petrol v8 with lpg lot cheaper to run and engines are pretty bulletproof.

What's that? Crap towing?

I've had a 5.2 and two 5.9's and the 5.9 especially could tow the Titanic!

Its not the grunt. Its the rear is too soft and over 50mph the trailer starts to move around badly.

Told it could be some bushes that are tired at the back. Will get them changed or will just give the car to my mum as winter hack.

I fancy a chav RRsport now as towcar to be honest!
