Default Can a Escort Rs2000 4x4 Rear Beam Be Used On a FWD Escort?

Im just toying with ideas atm and was wondering a few things.

Can a Escort Rs2000 4x4 rear beam be fitted onto a 2wd Escort RS2000 and will this improve the drive of the car as its a indipendant suspension set up rather than a torsion beam? What do i need to fit it?

Also how much power can a rs2000 rear diff take? i know the transfer boxes on rs2000's dont last but can a new diff be put into the rs2000 rear beam for a rwd application and will it cope with a zetec turbo?

ive started work on my project so i just want to decide whats best to do in the long run

matty

in theory it can. It was designed to be fitted to a FWD floorpan. You will need the mounts welding in and probably some reinforcement.

rear diff was based on the sierra 7" diff unit so id imagine it could be uprated.

how well it will handle is a different matter.

hmm thats good news,

are the 2 rear beam mounts on the fwd escort in the right position for the rear tie bar mounts on the 4x4 beam then? Then i just need the extra bracing and mount points for actual subframe itself?

then obviously just 4x4 rear shocks?

has a escort 4x4 rear beam ever been used in just a rwd application before? will it be able to cope? or is it just best leaving rwd to the cosworth?

the tie bars bolt up where the FWD rear beam bolts up. It was designed that way.

dont forget youll need either a custom tank or a rs2000 4x4 tank to accomodate the prop.

not heard of anyone using a rs 2000 beam in a RWD only configuration so dont know.

the basic design is the same, but the rear set up is quite weighty due to cradle and diff and mine has twin plastic fuel tanks and a much more shallow floor in the boot than normal escorts as we can only just fit a space saver in our floors, I did note you said you may install a fuel cell etc so its possible
