Been thinking of this for a while now I've got a sapphire cosworth which only comes out from April to October and only if they're dry days too and am on building a 3 door cosworth but iam seriously thinking of selling the 2 a saving up the rest and buying an rs 500 mainly as an investment but more so as I always get the piss took out of me for never getting my sierra out least I'd have a decent enough reason if I got one lol. Where would b the best place to buy one from and has anyone had any or know of anybody with any bad experiences in the way of buying one?
It's a lot of money to be spending on an old car but think I can't really loose on one really can I?

i think a genuine 500 is a solid investement, depending what you pay for it.
the more original, the more it retains its value imho.
good luck in finding one for a decent price

whats stopping you from using the sierra you have at the moment?

Buying an rs500 is one of the best investments possible
They have rocketed in value over the last 3 / 4 years and have held there values in these hard times while everything else has dropped like a stone
If i can help in any way please feel free to give me a call as i know of a few for sale and know of quite a few that are due to be sold shortly
I am the rs500 registrar for the RSOC by the way

I think it's a good investment and also it's quite nice to have a car for special occasions... No matter what's happening work/ family whatever having something like an rs500 to pull out of the garage and have a drive in would cheer almost anyone up
I don't think it has to be an rs500 though, I get the same feeling from the xr2 as im sure a lot of people do on here with their cars.

ive often thought about selling all my cars up and getting a 500,but i think i would be losing out not having different cars for different days/shows etc
and would end up paranoid everytime i got it out of the garage
and i f**kin love 500,s

Love 500's and like many wished i'd snapped one up when they were cheap but.......
Are they expected to rise above what they are now? i doubt it very much - so i predict you buy now for £30k+ and in a good few years it will still be worth similar - like everything in life theirs one big boom and if your in your a winner if not then the opportunity has passed.
Great cars but massively over inflated prices.

100% agree with ya mate.
I have a feeling they have peaked for now, special examples like Waynes Moonstone, Mark (Bonkers) black one and Garrys white example plus the unregistered car would command one off high prices from collectors, the rest I imagine will hover under the 40k barrier for some time into the future.
Pound for pound a well sorted 3dr or a mint original saff is a better buy right now in my opinion

I would agree with that 100%
they may go up a small amount next year due to the coverage they will get with it being there 25th birthday but i dont realy see a rise like we have seen over eecent years
I was told about one today for sale at a classic vehicle place on the outshirts of Chester.
65k on it with a price tag of 35k and in Moonstone Blue.
I can get some more details for you over the next couple of days as the chap who works there pops into see me now and again.
Cheers
Chris

Its a well known one Chris, been advertised for about a year now for 42k.
The 500s have had a good run, I was a bit late coming to the party, but glad I did.
I have been tracking them against other 80s classics ranging from the e30 m3 right up to the f40 and they have all had similar rises in recent years and also seem to have levelled off now for quite a while.
I dont see any big falls as most owners including the dealers dont need to sell, so wont take a hit, they will just hold onto them until the economy sorts itself out
I dont forsee any bargains either, people are just to clued up these days with the internet being such an easy reference tool to double check the market. The odd one might surface but will quickly be snapped up.

glad a bought mine in 1989. with only 24k on it it's probably made a increase on the price i paid. although at the time i could have bought a semi-detached house, which would have been worth 100k now. hinesight (spelling) is a wonderfull thing.
