Hi folks. Just joined and hope you can help.

I have a Focus ST 2 55-plate with no mods or upgrades. It has 77k on clock.

3 weeks ago my car started making a whining noise from cold start up. The noise disapears after a couple of minutes and car ran fine with no loss of boost. I have had the oil filter housing diaphragm replaced and that has not cured it.

4 days ago the battery started to loose charge. I have had the battery checked and have been told there is no drain on the battery.

Are the two issues connected?
Could it be the alternator?

Really would appriciate some help as i have no idea what to do next. I have no experience with this sort of thing and i'm at the end of my tether.

Having to start the car with a booster pack every morning!!

Get your alternator output checked. Does sound to me like it.

I have heard of quite a few going.

Most likely to be the alternator, they did have issues with them on the early models

Alternator for sure. I would suggest not driving it as you can get a voltage spike which will kill the ECU and leave you with rather a large bill!!
