It isn't bigger no, but custom housing is a lot of cash. I don't see the point if I'm honest.

How can a focus rs box go to cvh thought the starter would sit where the oil filter does?

Mk2 frs ratios would be totally wrong to a mate of mine had a 440bhp one and done stupid top end speeds, would go off the clock with ease

So unless your after top speed runs then it's not worth it

I heard you can change the bell housing on a mk1 frs box to make it front starter

Then you will have a quaife diff aswel as a bullet proof box and hydro clutch too

custom bell housing won't be cheap, that's for sure.
i'd just get a diesel mondeo mtx75 and whack an atb diff into it.
i run a frs box on my zetec turbo in my xr2, ratios will limit me to 164.5mph due to 15" rims on 195/45 tyres. bigger rims and better top end.
seem to be a very strong box though, shot peened gears as standard and atb already fitted.

holy thread revival

So if bell housings are interchangeable, could I use a frs box with a 1.8 diesel mtx bell housing and retain cable clutch and mechanical speedo, but have a cable gear change and the fancy frs diff??

Glenn to fit the st170 box to a cvh you need to cut the rear starter out of the bell and weld it into the front of the box

http://quaife.co.uk/shop/products/qbe32g

but I think your problem is gus is the amount of torque mr field has extracted out of your cvh, it will love gearbox teeth

st170 gearbox will be shite unless you get a custom gearkit which is circi Ł3800 odd. ratios are no good for boosted power

There is only a few if these left now mullet boy

I think quaife will be introducing a new gearbox to the mix next year as this is discontinued. They couldn't say how long they will be making serviceable parts for it

Kinda outs me off as that's where I am now

Will wait til probably the auto sport show ands see if they are making a new box

Sorry that made no sense at all haha. I was meant to sat can you use cable clutch on focus rs clutch using a different thrust bearing, but going hydraulic now so all good.

I am going to put a mk2 mondeo diesel bell housing on frs box - can you run a mechanical speed that way? As from pics I have seen it looks like it's mechanical turned into electronical speedo

Well boys and girls it seems you're homework has been a little poor this week.

Give me roughly 3 months and I'll quite happily prove this is by far one of the best conversions for these cars. I've even posted a picture of the box mounted in my bay but won't be giving up too much until it's running. They fit better than any other gearbox made by ford. The ratios are great 185 mph at 8000 rpm, rated to 500 ft/lb amd I'm not going to even give away the best bit that makes this all so easy!!

Won't be long until mine is fitted now
