mondeo mk4 rear sub frame bush failure / tool
Hi
I am a complete non-mechanical person so i hope you can help and the post isnt stupid.
I have a 2007 mk4 mondeo and when in for service at my local garage they have said the rear sub frame bushes need replacing. They have tried but cannot source a tool or bushes to do the job and say the only alternative is to replace the whole thing at a big cost.
I had a quick look on the internet and cannot see a tool that does the job? some say 2001 onwards so I assume they are for the mk3.
Does anyone know if such a thing exists?
Thanks

Lol, i have seen the tool at my local factors, Gunson make one, very strange they don't have one as it's a very common problem with them!
Have you looked on the bay?
Yes if it's post 2001 then it's a MK3.

Hi Martin
Thanks for the post.
i looked on ebay and they are either non specific or specify mk3 or earlier
I looked at a laser part 4796 which is 2001 onwards but could see nothing else that may have been suitable.
I phoned sealy who said they have a tool which is 2001 onwards & they weren't sure if it would work on a mk4 or not. if Ford had used the same bushes on mk3 and mk4 they said it could. Is that likely?
Seems strange to me a 4yr old model wouldnt have a tool yet?

Sorry, in my original reply I failed to notice that it was a MK4.
Now you mention it the one I have seen is indeed laser, and so the same as you have seen, they also do a caliper rewind tool that the likes of Halfords sell.
I am really dissappointed as I thought Ford would have sorted this on the MK4!
To be honest I don't know Mondeos intimatly, in fact I have never owned one, so I can not answer your question, but I would have thought the whole subframe would be different, so probably not?
If I am not mistaken is the MK4 not based on the Volvo S60 chassis?
