will new cooler and rad effect idle rate
hi folks since fitting my new 500cooler and alloy rad my cossie has been idling at roughly 1.2 instead of the normal 800ish mark. Will the above mods result in lower temps so the ecu thinks its a really cold start and keeps revs higher or are they not related?cheers luke

im no expert mate but i though as the engine would be cooler, the ecu might keep revs up to compensate for temp, doesnt it have different settings for cold starts and adjusts the fuel air etc accordingly??
You havent suggested that its a boost hose leak mate, but some others have! you can take the boost hoses off a YB and the idle speed will not change!
your thermostat should not open till over 80degs, depending on type, and the car should be out of cold start by that time. thats the whole point of the stat.
i would suggest you have an air leak somewhere, becuae a petrol engine will not rev without air, so i would pressure test the inlet system (behind the throttle body) and investigated for air leaks, before having the fuelling evalutaed and the base idle adjusted to suit.
the intercooler or rad fitment shouldnt have caused the issue.
does the idle drop to its normal speed if you unplug the ISCV?

i havent tried to take the idle controll valve out yet. If i take it out and it idles correctly does that assume the icv is it at fault and how can u pressure test the inlet system. Do u need special tools? Cheers luke
dont take the iscv out, just pull the plug off it, if the idle drops, then the iscv is being told to open by the ecu, there are a few various reasons this can happen.
to blow the inlet up with air we have a special fitting, which im sure you could make up, take it up to 3 bar.
otherwise if all is well, just get the fuelling/boost checked and set up, and reclaibrate the idle speed via the throttle body screw.
