I've had a 2 litre diesel jag for the past 5 years and paid about 150 road tax per year.
I've recently bought a 59 plate 2 litre diesel mondeo estate automatic (titanium x).
I thought the tax would be about the same.
I've just had a bill for 245 for 12 months

is that right or is this a mistake?

 

Well My CLS Brabus D6 ( 3 litre V6 Diesel ) is £245 , its nothing to do with engine size but how much emissions the car pumps out

 

No thats right, the car was registered after March 2001, so the CO2 (g/km) output dictates the price.

The Jag was cheaper as it would have less CO2 (g/km).

My old mans 10 reg 163ps auto mondeo is £120 or £145 per year or something around that. His old 57 reg 140ps auto was the same price as yours.

It's all to do with co2 and I think it changed for cars after 2006?

It goes on CO2 output after 1st march 2001, but then some bands changed again in 2006. For example IIRC if you have a M3 registered after this time you will be paying £400! But if it's pre 2006 then it's £2xx something.

The auto tax iS higher as well, compared to the manual emissions

 

That's what stopped me buying a ST 220. Pre 2006 yearly tax was £245 post 2006 it jumps to nearly £500!!!

 

My Shogun is £460

there just unreal prices

mind you if you can afford the car then the tax is nothing i suppose, but still a ripoff
