My Escort RST S2 always seems to have an air lock? When the engine is cold water seems to be passing through (on feeling water pipes there seems to be water present) but once it has been running the water in the tank rises and doesnt seem to be circulating and all pipes seem to be air locked. Any suggestions of why this is happening. Would be very grateful.

 

are the pipes firm like there is air in the pipes?

 

yes mate all the water pipes go solid

 

sounds like head gasket issue

 

At what point to they go firm...? Mine go firm just before the fans kick it, its a sign the header tank cap is letting the system pressurise so it doesnt boil... They once the fans have been on for a min or 2 the coolant level in the tank drops and the pipes soften up again!
