Default 2ltr tdci air block in coolent system?

Replaced the coolant the other day on the 2.ltr tdci, removed the expansion tank and washed it out as it was full with sludge removed the rad pipe on the right hand side just behind the light unit, and allowed to drain stuck the hose in until clear water was coming out. Removed the valve on top of the water pump again till it run clear. Re fitted rad pipe expansion tank filled system until the new coolant ran out of the top of the water pump tightened it up. However mondeos should take approx. 10.6 ltrs of coolant ours only used 4.5ltrs. the cars temp gauge only shows mid way so its not overheating, yet the expansion tank is freezing cold when the cars hot, people said run the car keep an eye on it and use the heater however nearly a week on nothings changed. it use to get warm but nothing now.
I looked at my mk4 astra and blew into the expansion tank and you cant blow into it its full no air locks etc yet do it on the mondeo and when you blow into it your air is able to run through the system making me think even more that’s there’s an air lock somewhere.
The coolant pipes are hot right round the engine up to the pipe I removed on the right hand side of the rad then from there back to the expansion tank is stone cold, making me think air lock in the rad? if so how do I test it and fix it as im stuck
