Default 3dr 205 Block - how much power???

Hi, im about to take the plunge and rip apart my 3dr engine I aquired for a project. I intend to do a low comp rebuild, do you def need to change to a 200 block for around 400BHP, ive seen several articles in fast ford etc of cars producing this power whilst still using the 205 block...If anyone has a big power 205 block I would be interested in knowing about it..

Thanks

Neal

you don't need it i wouldn't of said it's just preferable, when rs500's were touring cars 200's weren't heard of, but i may be wrong

RS500's had different 205 blocks, very similar to the 200 blocks so you cant really compare the 2.

when you strip your engine and check the condition of the 205 block take it from there.

apparantly a certain mr rouse said they preferred using the oldest 205 blocks they could find as they seemed less prone to cracking than new 500 blocks, it wasn't until later that they used the 500 block.....once they had put some serious miles on them and heat cycled them many times

but if i was going to use a 205 block (which i do) then i would check across the block to head face for cracks(they usually go around the head bolt holes), then i would shine a torch down the waterways looking for heavy corrosion on the outside of the liners...the cleaner the better
