depends if you want the whole lot or just the base. TBH nowadays places like Dell can sell you a PC just as cheap as you could DIY it for!!!
you could build yourself a PC for about 300quid even with all new components, and it's be more than adequate for anytihng other than new 3d games.
www.ebuyer.co.uk theyre nice n cheap
or www.scan.co.uk theyre cheap too (and often do good bundles for barebones systems)

not a gaming man anyway mate to be honest so 3d games not working isnt really a problem
the machine will be in my bedroom basicly to download and watch dvds linked to the tv, and burn the occasional one

EBAY!!!!!
Hard drives can be got cheaper than usual, sizes from tiny tiny upto 250gb I see on there (looking for a coupld of HDD's myself at the mo)
Got a pukka soundcard off there already (new, but half retail price) and a graffix card (you want summat like a GeForce MX440 if you wanna watch films on ya TV (not good enough for 3d gaming tho) as it has an S-Video output on it...
CD writers, Roms, DVD writers and roms also much cheaper than retail, towers are cheap too.
I paid £60 for my 15" LCD screen (new) so thats proof they can be got cheap!
Keyboard and mouse for a fiver, pair of speakers for another fiver, pretty much sorted - just need software then (again, easily got on ebay, or if you have P2P you can download it off someone

Okay Lee, here's how I broke down a PC (for my needs) to buy parts
(Item / explanation / example)

2 - PSU : Power Supply (see above item - includes PSU)
3 - Motherboard : PC's circuitry ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...741946951&rd=1 )
4 - Processor : or known as "chip" (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW )

8 - Sound card : for sound output and input ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...162935861&rd=1 )
Then you need storage drives;
1 - HDD : hard drive ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...sPageName=WDVW )
2 - CDRW : CD ROM and Rewriter ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...162381558&rd=1 )

Building PC's is like modding cars Lee - if you spec/build you can have it they way you want it....
Most times it does work out cheaper than just buying a system then adding a few bits to it, or changing a few bits....
I am building one for myself, cos a) I think it will be cheaper and b) I am too skint to buy one
But to replace the main downstairs family PC it was just easier to buy one (bought a new Dell system) as it had pretty much all the requirements needed (had to settle for Intel Celeron instead of P4 tho) and it was a lot less fooking around (as it is family PC I just needed something simple and easy to use with minimal hassle...

Taht one you posted there seems pretty damn good to me - all you need then is a few leads, an LCD screen, keyboard and a mouse and your away... But by then your over your £300 initial budget......
This will probably go up, but maybe something like this?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...163929216&rd=1
Add a DVD RW (if you need one) and a monitor to it and your away....
To watch your DVD's on the TV tho you will need to get a graffix card like the GeForce MX440 like I posted above

Well, from what I heard the AMD 64 is similar to the Intel P4 chip, the 3200 is the processor (3.2 GHz - pretty damn quick, most likely with an 800fsb and 1MB cache), 512 ram (standard, but sufficient) ASUS mobo mean the motherboard is made by a company called ASUS (dunno much about Mobo's so no help there then
)
Dunno is 8x DVD wrting is fast or slow for DVD writers TBH, tho it's gotta be better than not having a DVD-R right? And a Mercede's case sounds like the new cases that look like C class Mercs;

I have a 15" TFT, and although I like it if your not trying to save space it's deffo worth going for a 17" (as I prefer the look of 1024 res, and it's easier to read on a 17" than it is on a 15". 15" is better for me tho as I want to save desk space in my room)

I don't know much about AMD chips but it does look like the prcessor in the one you just put up (Apples) is a better one than the one Pete put up.....
But then, it's probably only the difference between Intel Celeron and Intel Pentium (most likely even less of a difference)
I wanted a P4 chip and 2.6-3.2 processor for the new family PC but coulnd't get one for the budget I was on, so settled for a Celeron 2.6... My mate hasa P4 2.6 (both identical PC's, just the chip is different) and whilst his is a little bit faster, the difference don't seem much.... I ain't really had a prob with the Celeron 2.6 in the new PC - this machine I am on at the mo is a HELLA old 667mhz Celeron
and this does me fine for web surfin!
Go with Pete's machine Lee - he knows his stuff and is a top lad for sorting you out with deals (plus the bigger HDD and screen)
Swapping it over to a new case shouldn't be too hard - just a case of remebering where the plugs all plug in (inside I mean) and swapping the stuff over bit by bit, then plugging it all back together again...
And there are some cool looking cases out there mate

Yeah his is slightly better spec, but my case, psu, ram, hdd, and all the cd drives are brand new and the screens brand new and bigger, also the keyboard/mouse and speakers are all brand new, at the end of the day im sure i'll manage to sell it at that price so if u get offered a better deal u'd be stupid to turn it down

Keep the one from Pete, swap your sat nav for the other guys PC and stick it up on fleabay to make a few quid

PC's are not too hard to build and there are several sites with instructions on out there. I built my own in November but it ended up costing more than one from a shop and I get most of it wholesale. The other problem I had was troubleshooting as I hit a few BIOS problems that I had to take into work and look at on the net there as I had no PC at home that worked.
I wouldnt fancy building an LCD monitor though, they are cheap enough to buy
