Kent camshaft cvh 35
I'm sure I have read on here thats these camshafts are not the best
I've had one in my car for a few years (hasn't even done 2k miles) and it made good power but developed a misfire the other day and I stripped it to find number 1,2,3 exhaust lobes heavily worn, that worn that they burred the bottom of the followers! So it is scrap and the followers and maybe the head
I will investigate further tomorrow as I was that pissed off I grabbed a beer and came back in the house. Anyone had problems with these? What camshaft is most folks using nowadays?

Yeah I know what you mean mate, I've had an oil pressure fault before and it trashed the whole engine, turbo etc, the pressure has been fine, I usually drive with one eye on the oil pressure gauge after the last time the oil pump failed
I've heard newman are quite good, what price are these kits? I will have a look tomorrow before work to make sure there isn't any serious damage, pop a standard cam in I have in the garage and run it for a bit before I decide which cam to get. I don't use it much so theres no rush
i've done the cvh35 and piper 285t2, all turned to paperweights a few months after fitting and abuse.
newman alledgedly use a stronmger tougher material, can't be any worse.
the wear is all down to poor oil supply from cvh engine design and heavy rocker arms.

Still running my Kent 35k and it's showing no signs of any issues at all when I had the head apart.
Newman aren't bulletproof, heard of a few people having issues with these as well.

I've read much about problems with heavily worn Kent or Piper camshafts after a few thousand miles. I think main problem is that they use very, very, very old and poor machines. I've read the Kent fitting instructions and they're horrible. Even in a CVH nowadays a new camshaft should be good enough to be fitted without cam lube and without running them in for such a long time. CVH camshaft wear is worse than in other engines, but even cheap standard ones last for many 10.000 miles! I'd recommend Schrick cams, but they only make one profile for a N/A CVH.
