Hi can you help me

i have a cosworth it will start up and run for a little while and then stall as it would if it had ran out of petrol when running the fuel pumps makes a high pitched buzzing noise like it has no petrol and is getting hot this pump has been sitting with no petrol in for a while as the car was being built could it be knackered?

Dose it matter if the pipe from the petral to the pump is smaller in inner ID then the standerd pipe as i have put 10mm id and the standerd one is 14mm??

 

check hose from tank to pump for leak... or maybe tank vacum but that is rarely

Yes without a doubt it matters massively a reduction of this much, it's a serious no no, the pumps have ZERO suction, so if flow can't keep up when flat out, they can't suck, your engine could just run lean and melt the pistons etc.
OPA is cheap enough, about Ł1.50 a foot, so not worth the risk.
Yes sitting empty can kill the pumps, why not check the rail pressure with a gauge, if need be power the pump manually from a battery/jump pack etc.
