Default 2wd clutch cable longer or shorter than 4wd

please bare with me here guys, following on from this thread-

https://passionford.com/forum/ford-s...ch-advice.html

i replaced the clutch cable on my 2wd saph whihch i thought was the correct one as it was the same as was on the car, as there was a spare that came with it, but i have since found another cable in my boot which is alot longer, so im not sure if i have put the wrong one on...

would a short cable give me the problem of the clutch dragging or have i got it totally wrong?

just rather know before i spend £400+ on a new alcon paddle one.

the self adjusting thingy seems to be working fine, well what i could see laying under it today.

any advice would be great lads.

I'm 99% sure the cables are different lengths, something you could try as a temp measure is get a nut with 8mm thread, so 13mm nut, cut a slit in it to clear the cable, then wedge between the end of the cable, and the arm, this will effectively give more push to the clutch, if it's now ok you know you've found the problem, use a lever through the clutch arm slot to lever the arm forwards to enable you to get the nut in between cable and arm.

the 4wd cable is about 9 foot long and the main suspects have got to be the ratchet things in the pedal

4wd one goes out to the front of the engine bay, round the rad and then back along under the inlet manifold area to the box

Mine was like that on my black one (2wd).It was like that when I bought the car and the cable I replaced it with was the same.It was ty rapped along the metal coolent pipe.No problems for me except for the usual ratchet and pawl issues of it self adjusting.Lasted over 15000 miles though

I bought a new 2wd cable recently for my rebuild and it is tie wrapped to the steering rack. Pretty sure it wldn't reach round the radiator route described above.

Hydraulic is amazingly better, and doesn't have to cost the earth, the best concentric kit I've seen was from "southwest", all metal slave, none of the cheap nasty plastic stuff like most, saab 900 ones are often used as well on alfa/T5 box mixes.
