Default What pistons

As title whats the thoughts on best pistons to bye for a early 2wd 205 block gonna need 0.5mm overbore, aiming for a nice strong 300-325bhp engine.

Someone recomended the wisco pistons std comp with cut outs speaking to a mate today he says stick to mahle and get valve cut outs machined.

i stayed with mahles in mine, where abouts in suffolk are ya??

As said MAHLE will handle that power with ease, and what I use, just get machined for cut outs, if you want to use different cams now or later, std cams are perfect for that power level as is the std turbo.
I use B.E. Randal, of Hepworth near Diss, he charges a straight 1 hour labour fee for cutting the pockets in, which is either £40 or £45, some charge £9 per cut, x 16 cuts = £144, so bit of a saving, I've just rebuilt my engine and used std with pockets for any later cam change, going later on to use a turbonetics turbo, and want a BD14, which I will get brian(randal) to do by reprofiling a std cam, if enough base circle on them.

i would use the 4x4 pistons as they have an off set gudgoen pin and this redused the notorious 2wd piston slap on start up when cold

Cool thanks for the advice im torn between the Mahle and Wisco pistons both work out to the same price, i def want cut outs all four of my orginal pistons have hit the exhaust valves 4 are now not seating proberbly slightly bent.

"kiss" or "witness" marks are VERY common even with the std cams, but so slight they don't bend valves, personally I'd go Mahle, they were oe fit, and oe stuff tends to be very good generally.
The reference to the offset wrist pin, is misleading all 2wd pistons were offset as well, just not as much, currently supplied pistons will all have the same offset as 4wd, very good price from Matt Lewis, 01922 692424.

marks seam a little heavier than witness think someone rev'ed the shit out of it, not sure about valves had the head upside down with valves closed filled the chamber with white sprit and it leaks in to the port could be bent or seat need to pull it apart to find out really.

It was Matt who recomended the wisco pistons think i will wait untill Classic ford and see what he can do the best deal on.

Somone may correct me but i dont think wisco do half measures on sizes like ford did with mahle (0.5) but on the power your aiming for you should be fine with either.

Well spotted i think std size is 90.83mm and the wisco are 91mm or 92mm, guessing i need to get the bores checked to see if 91mm will take out the lip.

Yeah just get your machine shop to measure your bore's, the wisco pistons are a nice item and as said they already have the valve cut outs.

The lip is NOT the wear point, this occurs worst about halfway down the cylinder, it also makes the bore slightly oval, go along to someone like randals, and they will stick a bore gauge down there for you, I can 100% assure you they will tell you the honest truth even if it does them out of work, they have way more than enough to keep them happy.
They also bore correctly with a deck plate, if done without as some tuners do the block is not much better than scrap.
Mine was revving to 7300rpm, and clipped the pistons, if you have any amount of miles on the engine, ie 50,000+ then I'm not at all surprised that white spirit leaked out, I've seen people ruin new seats by lapping them just after they've been recut on a SERDI valve cutter, not needed and makes them worse hand lapping, it's very old hat with modern machines like the ace serdi seat cutter, at the mileage of 50,000+ the head is likely in need of new exhaust valves and all 16 guides as well as seats anyway, the guide wear is astronomical on the cossie engine, I had mine done with COLSHIBO guides, last time they'll ever need changing, all done at randals.

That would be good when it comes to wireing and plumbing just having one to look at is going to be handy to see where everything go's.
