ok lads, getting my sapph on the road is becoming a nightmare, new steering rack, new front calipers and now it seems I need a new clutch, arhhh!!

note self, never buy a cosworth that's been in storage, maybe low miles but boy are they trouble, lol

Anyhow what sort of clutch do I need, it's running 340ish bhp will a standard be ok or do I need an uprated

 

sorry on the iPhone and my chubby fingers hit the wrong button!

want it to drive nice like a standard car, but am worried it'll start slipping then I've wasted my money but then the uprated ones are expensive..

any advice would be good thanks.

 

I have gone standard cover with ap six paddle clutch plate used to spin up on standard before on full boost loads better now and not too heavy on foot my best mate is running a heavy duty alcon and that is quite soft on the foot considering its a heavy duty one a lot of people are converting to the modern hydraulic set up with a centre push kit that reyland sells if any of that makes any sense after a night on the beer

oh right the 6 paddle maybe an option then, take it it's ok to use the original cover?

all I know is with mine it's not releasing, put a new cable on as it was stiff, now can only get a gear if you really bury the pedal sometimes feels the cars still moving ie it isn't releasing.

 

Wouldnt go for a paddle one on that stage, get an uprated organic. Had one on mine with a slightly uprated cover from sachs which was as easy as the std one and it handled 340bhp easy and comfortable. Paddle discs are for Racing, youll get tired of it driving around town and its harsh on your flywheel and running gear aswell.

 

Maybe your selfadjusting thing om your cluthpedal worn?

If your clutch is dragging with the pedal pressed normally, then space the arm and nipple by means of a nut, with a slit cut in it to allow the cable to pass through so no dismantling, see if this helps.
The paddle clutches are not all for racing that's total garbish, they may well be used in racing but some have perfect road manners, and are actually better/lighter and just as progressive as the std ford clutch.
I would go for a alcon 6 paddle friction plate with a std ford cover/diaphragm, be warned there are two different ford supplied ones, can't remember which is which but one is good one is bad, if money can stretch use a alcon cover as well, AP's tend to be more on/off compared with alcon.
Reyland do a good kit for £350, but it is do able for under £100 using your own bits, and for around £150 you can get a concentric hydraulic clutch conversion, but this is for the chevy T5, so does need some adaptions to fit, just basic machining, it also uses a vastly better hydraulic unit than those fitted to cars as std, ie the std crap has plastic parts whereas the kit mentioned does not, it's fully metal.

Ap or Alcon 6 paddle on standard cover is fine for the road IMO

 

Im just saying a paddle disc is not necessary on that power, ive seen paddle discs ruining both flywheel and cover in a month since the driver didnt know how to drive it, theyre not ment to slip at engagement, think about that when you are launching. There are way better routes to go IMO for road use, especially at that power.. Thats my opinion to this topic, take it or leave it.

They will sell you a plate on its own.
