Default Cosworth Thermostat Housing problem HELP!!

Hello people,

I'm hoping someone can help me, or someone who has had a similar problem,

I've put my thermostat housing in for powder coating and after getting it back it has a pin prick hole in it from corrosion.

So therefore I have managed to source a brand new Genuine Ford item, however it's missing 2 pipe connections on it and I can't for the life of me think of what to do,

any ideas anyone??

thanks

The fittings for the pipes on your old one are just push fitted into the thermostat
Housing with some sealant round them so carefully (so you don't crush the
Pipes) clamp some mole grips on each one and twist and pull them out, the use a bit of sealant and push them into your new housing the same way,

Very easy to do mate

Thanks

I've managed to remove the elbow but not the smaller one, it's well stuck in....

Can I not buy new ones somewhere and make it easier?

The smaller one has a pin prick hole in it, so it won't retain water

I'm wondering if I can tap a thread in it and use something.....

I don't want to spoil it with it being a new genuine one

can you not tap a thread into the new housing and use a 1/8 npt 6 or 8mm fuel line fitting?

I was thinking of that but I'm unsure of what size and also the bore of the pipe would be smaller reducing the flow

Yeah 3 bolts and prise the front off. New seal and stat and pop it back in.

Make sure it's a proper seal though, one that fits to the stat rather than a cheapo o ring

2WD doesn't have the front piece, but you'll have either 2 or 3 bolts into the head, that's all that holds it on.

Is this a 2WD 205 thermostat?

Just undo the bolts, pull the lid off? will the water piss out and need fully refilling? or will just a bit come out and can be replaced by topping up the header tank? will this get any air locks in the engine or will it filter all this through?

Then I guess just take out the old, put the new one in, replace the gasket and do back up? fill with water and squeeze the inlet and outlet pipes to the rads with the cap off to bleed the system?

Thanks

Mark

Is this the one to have as well? What is the difference between the 88 and 82 degree... would the 82 get the car up to temp so the heater works fine? or would I need the 88 in this country?

The stat housing in the picture is 4wd, take the front off swap the stat and replace. You will loose a cup of coolant at most. The elbow has a bleed screw on the top.

I believe the 2wd stat housing is one piece. Take the whole thing off then swap stat and replace.

The 82 and 88 deg stats will open at different times. I personally wouldn't be changing from the stock stat.

If you mean fan switches then that's different

This is what I have on mine

Is this a 4x4 one?

And is the bolt on top the bleed valve?

Want to be 100% before I go taking bits off

Radiator top hose and bottom hose will be different temps as its passed through the radiator to cool it. Same as the pipe to and from the heater matrix for your heating.

First thing I would change is the stat

OK, on that. Will report back when it arrives and fitted.

Just drove it home, another ten miles and fine. To be honest if them hoses are right one being cooler than the other, I dont think there is anything wrong with it, the temp gauage sits nicely, not over heating or under heating, getting hot air from the heater etc... I will take it out and test this one first I think

If it's working I'd personally leave it well alone - If it's not broken, don't fix it! :P

I just got my doubts about it. It has been changed, engine was rebuilt in 2010 and all this kind of stuff was changed then... I am sure it will still be stiff though... am I likely to break a bolt or something?

Naa bolts will be fine. The problem on mine was because the stat itself is very soft thin metal, it corroded the housing and needed prising out.

It was badly pitted where it sits in the recess so I binned it and bought a new one

Hi, It's a little bit rude but :

I'm a from france, and I have a donkervoort D8 Cosworth, sorry it's not a Sierra , but the engine in it is a Cosworth YBG, and I have the same thermostat housing.

My problem : The o-ring between this part and the engine block is broken, and
I look at every place possible to find the corresponding o-ring, but I can't find it,
It's very disappointing ><.
Can somebody help me?
If this part isn't anymore manufactured can I just put a flat gasket in place of this damn o-ring?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answers!
