Default Engine Transplant - What parts are needed ?

Hello.

Just moved house and got myself a garage so now I can start working on cars for the first time in my life.

I have always longed to have space to work on cars and bikes as a hobby but never had the privilege until now.

So I bought a wee Ford Ka and plan to put a bigger engine into it.

I eventually decided to go for a 1.8 engine out of a Ford Focus (primarily to keep costs down as it uses the same gearbox as the 1.3 Ka).

I dont want massive power, just want a nice project car; something to work on and be driveable at the end of the day and if the idea falls through or whatever; something that is not going to cost me a fortune.... just a nice cheap project.

I have removed the Ka engine, and just waiting on delivery of the Focus engine, but I was wondering what else I will need to make it run ?

The only parts missing from the (1.8 Focus) engine are alternator, starter motor and air-con (dont need this anyway) and power steering pump.

I have all these parts on my Ka engine though. Could I use these with the focus engine ?

Cheers in advance for your help.

You'll need the brackets for alt and PS pump (if you want to keep it) from another zetec. Doubtful KA HCS ones will fit the zetec block, though I know CVH alt brackets do so maybe...??

Most importantly, you'll need some way of fueling the beast. Either carbs or injection.
For injection you'll need the zetec stuff - KA stuff wont fit (different inlet manifold, injectors..etc..) and wouldnt fuel enough anyway.
If I were doing the job I'd bascially follow one of the many 'CVH to Zetec' conversion guides as they cover pretty much everything, albeit in a slightly different car:

Couple here, incl wiring:

For a KA you'll need to either buy (if they exist?) or make custom engine mounts as the usual CVH cut and shut ones wont fit, the KA ones wont fit and the Zetec ones definately wont fit (they're almost as big as the car!).
Sorry if this is all obvious. I've no idea how much you've looked into it already.
