3 week westfield cosworth rebuild.......again :(
got 4 weeks off from uni so started to build up the westy again
started tue afternoon and been workin like a sod on it

westfield have made this chassis a bit wider on the tunnel so i can actually have the gearbox fit without actually touching the chassis! lol

i think the new alloy avo's (cheers chris
) look top with the chrome wishbones and springs! very bling bling

gave the new plenum (thanks jhon
)a quick paint strip and polish
its one of mikes desingsif ya wondering

this is what she looked like on day 2

if i ever see another rivit again i think im guna cry

found out today that the new rear wishbones are 25mm shorter than my old ones and that my old ones are special order only so i have to wait 3-4 weeks for them
not happy but will just have to finish the car and fit them later

had a quick look at the loom and then decided thats a job im guna put off for as long as i can!
i bloody hate electrics

mmmmmmmm shiny alloy

lowering the main body tub on this morning. very nervous about droping it by myself

trying the bonnet for fit and fitting the locks
and this is how i left it tonight

if you want to do a westfield then just buy the starter kit for a 2ltr pinto.
cossy just fits with a bit of tweaking
just buy the other bits as you need them as you will need allot of custom stuff making like, exhaused, sump mod, prop, etc...... most other stuff fits straight in though
i know cars that have had 35k spent on them
ok, not done very much this last 2 days cause ive been working and sleeping
but done a bit.
got the fuel pump and lines in

striped the old engine, amazed how much ive taken off the clutch plate in the 900miles since i last had it out
got to stop launching the car

painted up the new block that i finally got this weekend after 4 months of waiting
still worth it though i think, got the block with pistons and rods (only done 500 miles since being built) for Ł450
thought i would go for blue this time

new pistons, been told they are 7:5:1 comp, but got to get this checked out

did the valve guides.
who says you need a press to do them
just do it the devon way and use a gert big hammer

modded sump that i had fitted the first time round, got 5mm skid plates on the bottom just incase i get a bit low to the tarmac

although i never had any problems yet i decided to add another baffel box inside the sump, should hold oil aroung the pickup a bit better

will update some more in a couple days

T34 Hybrid turbo
Wire ringed block
Hi Spec 4 pot brakes
Literally thousands spent getting it right
2 sets wheels (1 cut slicks, 1 road tyres)
Trailor

what is the SEiW? the sei is the independant rear but whats the "W" stand for
The only thing is its on a Q
Whats you opinion on the bike engined ones?
Cheers

sounds good mate
got any pics (might be the one i saw about a year ago
(w) means widebody
you could get around the q plate if you wanted to give it a bit of a little rebuild?
not driven a bike engine one yet
but my mate is building a hyabusa engine dax rush
from what ive heard they are great fun and you can rev the nuts off them but you do have to work them quite allot to get them going.
i just prefere a engine that i know will hold together for definate

ahh just found the one your looking at, is it the one thats 280bhp?
looks ok but being a track car it will be fairly basic inside etc, but this may suite you very well if you just want it for a track car
if your serious and its not to far away i could always go and have a look at it with you if you like?

its listed as 330bhp but i guess thats just predicted for the stg3 setup.

ah i was looking at it on bookatrack.com
got to be the same car but bookatrack has a pic and says 280bhp
im on this one turbo7@se7ens.net but theres no pics and it tends just to be loads of over technical toff most of the time

thats gotta be the same!
this is making me wanna hurry up and get shot of the cossie
how comes you don't have the screen on yours? apart from them looking crap
surely its impossible to drive in the wet (or you don't?)

spot on. driving mine in the wet would mean instant death!
got caught in the rain once and the car was just aquaplaining all over the road
+ with a screen you really feel the drag it creates at about 120mph+ but with the race screen mine just pushes hard right off the clock (about 160ish)
oh, and if you have a proper screen you have to have a heater fitted for it to pass the sva and that means more weight and more hassel and im just a lazy bugger

ok today i got some little jobs out the way
got all the boot locks, hinges fitted and cut the holes for the turrets to fit through (ment for seatbelts
but will make a nice camera mount
)

finnished paneling the gearbox tunnel and fitted 95% of the interior

made up some brackets to fit the rad and got it all in the right place
you can always tell your doing well when your intercooler is bigger than your rad!

fitted the front arches, get them well preped so the bonding sealant dont let go at 160mph

place in oven on 20 deg for a few hours and allow to harden! lol
paint tins are an optional extra on these cars

cut out the extra little bit of ventalation. ment to be the number plate bracket but guna stick that on the nose as my intercooler duct needs to sit underneath as well

mate rich came around, since he cant be arsed to get on and build his dax hyabusa i thought he could do some crappy little jobs that i couldnt be arsed to do. lol

doh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
due to being bloody tired and not paying attention ive just drilled a hole in the gearbox tunnel to run a cable compleatly forgeting that the rear brake line was on the other side
not gone through compleatly but put a nice big flat spot on the pipe so that'l be me taking out the gearbox tomorrow then so i can run a new line back

Good to see the build progressing Darren.
For other build pics you can see my site:

There's about a dozen official zei220s, of which mine was the first. On top of that there are another dozen or so cars where the owners have installed cossies off their own back. They don't come up for sale terribly often but when they do they're usually in the 13-17k area.
Rebuilding and upgrading mine to where it is now has cost me Ł16236.56 in materials plus 800 hours of labour. Will I ever sell it? No, probably not but then again if someone waved 20k-25k under my nose I think my resolution may waver.

You're right, the market is very depressed at the moment but I think my car, with all its history is more likely to make decent money than many others. I am pretty realistic though and know that I'll never recoup even a fraction of the cost of the improvements that I've made. Selling it though is not an option
Chris! glad you've joined the site mate, the other night when i was searching the net for info on these baby i stumbled upon your site, excellent!
Out of interest how much was you after the car back in 2/2002 http://g2.nu/chris/westie/specs/specs.html

It was JohnF who was selling the car back then, I think he was after 13k - that was for a 10 year old car with a number of issues inherent to putting a cossie engine into such cars. Now it's a pretty much brand new, fully sorted car.
20-25k, isn't a great deal when you consider what's gone into it and that a new V8 engined car has just only 60% of the power, is a lot more costly to run and costs a fair wodge over 20k for a basic spec of car.

ok.
made a new bit of dash to take the act gauge, just got to get some blue vinal to cover the edges

conrods finally turned up so engine is now built and in

made up a new actuator bar to fit the t34 at the angle i need it rotated.

all the ducting is in for the intercooler
had to run the rad hose around the outside of the chassis as there was no room to put it anywere else

with the turbo rotated down there was no room for the altinator so thats had to be moved to the other side

made up a new throttle bracket. real tight though as the nose doesnt allow it to come straight out which is why its been fitted on the piss

new turbo heat shield as i wasnt happy with the fit of the old one. just got to give it a polish

and this is pretty much how she looked last night.

The rebuild is looking very good mate.
You've spent alot of time on it
We will all have to meet up later in the year for a beer and to look at each others cars.
I hopefully will be at Elvington this year for Ten of the Best 3?
Up near York, will you be there?
