Default Wiring auto-dim mirror into a Mk1

Hi folks, can anyone advise on the best place to take +12V for an auto-dimming interior mirror (ex-Mondeo)?
Obviously this needs to be tied in with sidelights coming on. (earth is easily available from the interior lights)
I found some instructions on the defunct focusowners.com forum but that suggested pin 16 on the headlight switch, which mine doesn't have (very early Mk1 Zetec).
I've had the switch out today and tried a multimeter on it, but can't identify any pin that consistently comes on +12V only with the lights.
The pin numbering is quite strange, it has a 15 and a 58 for example, and I can't find any reference for that - I've even looked on an old Ford ETIS CD that I have!
Any advice appreciated.

Just a thought - what about the radio/CD multiplug connection or the lighting around the heater controls, both of those must have inputs tied to sidelights.
But which is easier to get to and identify the correct cable?

Actually, if you check the Mondeo Mk3 wiring diagrams, you'll find the 12v feed is just an ignition on feed, not related to lights at all. Many people use the 12v permanent feed on the roof light without battery drain problems.

You also need to pick up the reverse feed. Best place for that is base of the passenger side A pillar.

Thanks for that, it makes sense.
In the end I did use the radio illumination, not least because it was easily accessed and easier to scotch-lok onto.

Didn't bother with the reverse connection as I don't see it being a problem and I don't use the interior mirror when reversing anyway - I turn my head to look, and use the door mirrors for fine positioning against kerbs etc..
