As per title has anyone ever welded the roof due to the sunroof leaking in that bad ?
Is it a good or bad idea to weld a plate both on the top and from the inside ?

 

Think the heat distorts the roof when welding it...
The thing todo seems to be to re-skin it, by cutting the existing skin off and getting a new 1 welded/brazed on!

How bad is it rusting?

 

cut mine off, did try repairing but wasn't happy with it

 

to be honest its driving me mad, when you say distort does that mean the roof goes wrong ?? id love to re skin it but its the nightmare of trying to find a skin.
in one sense couldnt i weld it, but then what i was going to do was to get one of them carbon roof skin like connor rst has and bond it on top of the roof. would this be ok or am i still defeating the object lol

Check your drain tubes are not blocked first in the sunroof shut 2 in the front corners ,2 at the back of the roof, or is it the sunroof seal (find a replacement sunroof in the breakers) ,carbon skin (i have one on my red one )or find a mint non sunroof roof off a base model, and cut the roof off unpick the skin and unpick your skin then transfer

 

Well i peeled back the headlining last night, and to my worst nightmare had come true, on both sides near the back of it had a nice rusted hole along
I'll try put pics up later but has anyone tried welding plates on them to repair them if not anyone know where i can get a new sunroof tray skin ???

 

cut a roof off down the breakers and un pick the sunroof tray and transfer on to your car ,you wont get one new

 

You'll never weld the roof without it distorting. Even if you did, youd have to use filler over the top and this would crack. New roof skin time I have a mint roofskin actually in my yard.

 

I take it that it would have to be a mk4 escort 3door skin ?
