Default Please can someone talk me through my ECU options?

I have a 2.0 focus engine in my mk4 fezzy. I've finished the mechanical work, and now need an engine loom and ECU to finish it off. I'm looking preferably for someone that will make a loom, plug it into an ecu, and then map it.

I've approached Motorsport Developments and they seem happy to map the car once it'll turn key start, but this is what I'm struggling with.

I've been reading about people using escort management to run the 2.0's but they seem to have quite a low success rate. I've also seen the likes of Webber etc selling turn key solutions with throttle bodies loom and ecu, but they come in at about £1750.

Ive seen megasquirt but don't know a great deal about mapping and if something goes wrong and it won't start, I would only end up having to take it somewhere to get sorted lol.

If anyone has gotten to the end of my drivvle and moaning, please could you either suggest a simple solution to getting it running with the series/code of ecu that i would need, or recommend somewhere that could make me a loom and map an ecu?

Any help greatly appreciated.

To be a bit clearer, can anybody recommend someone in the North West that could make me up and install a loom and some management? And hopefully MAP it as well lol

hi. ive done this conversion recently....2.0 blacktop into a mk4 fez. im running megasquirt and didnt really come into many issues. and the beauty is its very easy to map. done most of the boring maping myself, as i drove around with a wideband, then visit a dyno to sort the high end stuff and build some torque into the map.

However, i probably couldnt be further away from you as im south east! ha

im in singleton pal near the Garza stretch . all the conversion involves fitting rs1800 engine loom and splicing into your existing loom plug and play might be abit of messing round with yours having chip key and the rs loom i used are none anti theft but that hardly a problem

There are dozens of ecu's you could use. Some of which can be purchased with looms ready to go, or with minimal wiring work.

But what is your budget, and do you have any ability whatsoever to install parts yourself ?

Unless it is free, I really cant see any reason to use an original equipment style ecu that cannot be easily programmed by anyone.

DTA, Adaptronic, Haltech, Link, Vipec, Wolf, KMS, AEM, Motec, Syvecs, Wolf, or for the cheaper DIY opensource based products, VEMS or Megasquirt.

Both VEMS and MS can be bought either full on DIY build and wire yourself ( fuck that ) or as ready to go product with complete wiring looms for an almost plug in install.

I made one. It's not hard, a simple job of getting all the connector plugs I needed, and then some thinking time on how I wanted it routed, then get going.

Omex do a fully built loom for their ecu's but they do charge alot for it.

VEMS charge 160euros for a basic 4cyl loom, which is pretty cheap

Adaptronic is around £200

Haltech would be mid-high £200's for their flying lead loom kits.
