Default Buying Advice

Hi all

First post so if I am in the wrong place, sorry in advance!

I am looking to buy my first Escort Mk 1 Mexico or RS2000 (Prefer the RS).

Is there any buying advice around this site anywhere to save asking something that has already been done? I am sure there are lots of RS clones out there and also cars that have been messed about with for racing etc and dont want to make an expensive mistake.

Also, what is the feel for pricing? I am keen for the car to be as perfect and as original as possible. I am seeing RS2000 prices in excess of 20k. Is this to be expected? In my copy of Classic Car Buyer this week the RS2000 in Condition 1 is listed at £12K, quite a difference.

Any ideas or advice gratefully received
Thanks
Mark

PS I posted this first in the general section, sorry for the duplication.

Unfortunately for "perfect and as original as possible" you are looking at around 20k for an RS2 and maybe 16k+ for a Mex.

As you say, there are clones/reshells out there so unless you know exactly what to look for you should find someone who knows these cars and take them with you. If you are that serious, join the AVO Club;
