Default clutch issues

I have not long fitted a AP paddle clutch to my zvh. Im having issues with clutch slip at a very low power level. I fitted the clutch with a fresh skimmed flywheel. There seems to be a mark on the paddles where it looks like it has been biting in one place but the whole of the flywheel has been used and you can see the wear.

Were the clutch disk and pressure plate new AP items?
Or was this a mix and match?

i bought this off a guy breaking his car. He said it had only covered a few hundred mile which i had no reason not to believe him as there were loads of material left on the paddles and the cover was not badly worn.

Looking at the cover i cant see any markings on it to point out a "brand" name. It may be a standard clutch cover ??? No matter what cover it is it was slipping with about 150bhp. The car has not been mapped and was just on a base map so no real load was put on the engine.

I still have not got it back to gether yet to try the plate with a new cover.

Hello Juffer,

Something about the clutch and disk set up must have been wrong.
A 4 paddle disk does not require a heavy pressure plate - certainly not for
150 hp.
The disk may have been previously oil contaminated?
Or the pressure plate is for a disk with a different thickness?

Cheers

i'm running a standard cover on an ap 4 paddle which has also started to slip.

its only covered 3,000miles, admittidly some of which has been town driving. Would the clutch slip be a likely thing to occur for this kind of use?? the car itself is a 2.0 zvh.

The first gear never felt like it would bite as hard, and felt as if there was a spongy feeling in the clutch pedal?

Could anyone shed like on this issue?

I think i may have been sold a standar cover plate with my paddle clutch. Im also running a ZVH and being a 2.1 it will have a fair ammount of torque over a 1.6 cvh. I have heared of people using standard cover plates on CVH but not on ZVH or ZETEC.

I have bought a new rachet and clutch cable aswell just incase these were to blame.

Clutch cover plates are set up for a specific disk thickness.

If the AP 4 paddle disk is thinner than the standard organic disk there will be an issue.

Could someone measure the thickness of a standard new organic disk, and compare it to a new 4 paddle disc thickness?

This may shed some light.

Cheers
