Default 4x4 stage 1 back to standard

I have a 1990 4x4 sapphire. I bought the car nearly 2 years ago, it is running on a stage 1 which to my mind is a chip, increased boost, s/s exhaust and a dump valve. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Unfortunately the best petrol I can get here in Ireland is only 95ron and therefore not really good enough for my car as it is. I have used octane booster and so on and I'm not really looking to turn this into a 'for' and 'against' debate on octane booster.

I would like to know if my ECU can be put back to standard and also remapped to run on 95ron. I understand that it will reduce the cars power potential but I'd prefer a situation where I won't bore a hole in my pistons by using too low an octane rating and consequently having lots of pre-detonation.

I believe there is more to driving a nice sapphy than driving the balls out of it to impress v-tecs and evos!

I plan to turn back the boost to standard (0.7-0.8 I believe) and remap the ECU. The other mods I assume are ok to leave where they are?

I don't think I'd trust any tuner here to do this job so I hope there is help on hand in the UK?

maxol e5 is what i use ,on stage three 380bhp no problem .it is the equivalent of tesco which is 99ron .i checked this out when i brought my cossie into ireland. a 500 cooler is a worthwhile mod to keep the temps down and the new specr one is very good at doing this .i run mine peak 32 psi and settles on 28psi.

my plan for ythe future is to get the car livemapped with the e5 for maximum safety

no need for octane booster .its too fookin dear.

is yours pinking under load mate ,have you checked your egts

it doesn't pink with a bottle of lucas in it, very bad without it though. I cant get that e5 stuff anywhere within reason so I'm looking at any other option to be honest, i.e. a remapped!

EGTS?? exhaust gas temp ya? never measured it

To be honest I run on 95 octane, never had any problems, it depends what fuel the software is written for, as standard the 4x4 was unleaded (This is what the green cam cover denotes, assuming YBG) to get back to standard you ideally want a standard chip, you may need to wind the boost down a bit as well.

It depends on the D/V as standard they have a Bosch recirculating item, if atmospheric then it's been added

Correct that is the standard boost pressure, and if this is exceeded they will hit overboost protection, I do know the exact strategy but won't bore you with that

Green cam cover only indicates a catalyst equipped car, both red and green tops can run normal unleaded

There isn't anyone on the whole island of Ireland that can write chips for our cars as far as i'm aware, so you've no choice other than to use someone in England. That or change your ECU.

have a look at the chip in your ecu and you may find someone to do a straight swap for yours

Plus that as well but the 2WD cars ran on leaded fuel AKAIK, although as you say they could be run on unleaded but this usually requires slight ignition timing adjustments. YBG was unleaded when new.

You simply need to replace your chip with the standard one, they do come up every so often check the bay etc, people on here have them as well.

Red top is YBJ engine, it's well worth asking as they remap them so I guess they use the standard map as a base and then modify it so in theory should be able to "Burn you a chip".
