17 yrs old and all i could afford and run on an apprentice mechanics wage was a V 1980 mini,
orange with white wellers, bucket seats and a cage. Just the ticket for a first car

I used to have a 1.0l red vauxhall nova. I hated that car but it was cheap to insure. tad on the slow side, but I still managed to wrap it round the rear end of a stationary police car on the M1

LOL, i know i really need to get something "sensible", and spending so many years watching my brother pump funds into some of his projects i should be dead against getting something out of the ordinary. But id love to have something old and a bit different for my first car, ive got a bit of a thing for Austin A35's
Didn't have a car until I was 19 as I spent all my wages getting drunk
First car was a champagne gold 5 door A-reg Escort 1.6 Ghia. Fond memories of that car. Colour coded mirrors, XR2 steelies with black painted hubcaps, Huge OAKLEY sticker in the rear window. Ring Spotlamps and green Ford badges. Classy!

When I was 17/18 I used to drive my mums old Mk2 Astra, 1.2 litre. 5 door. Not cool.
Wasn't till I was 19 that i bought my own car, a Mk1 Astra GTE. Was £880.
What u should get depends on lots of things, but mainly the amount of dosh you have/wana spend I suppose. If your young and new to driving, get something cheap, easy to work on and cheap to insure. At least for a year or so. And try not to crash it.

The guy who originally owned my car had a Porsche 928 at 17, followed by an Escort Cosworth, followed by the white one I now own

Had a nice mk 3 escourt 1.3 for me first real car, 30k and mint, for about 6 months
i had a mk1 fiesta 950 popular plus, in terracota brown/orange/red whatever you wanted to call it.
that thing had the engine rebuilt by my dad twice, best running fiesta in town
cost me as much to insure as it was to buy off my sister

Steve,
You'll piss yourself when you know why I bought it
.
I had been a fan of "supercars" from the moment I could say "car" and so always wanted a mid-engined exotic 2-seater with pop-up head-lamps (which is what a "super-car" was in my eyes). Unfortunately by the time I was old enough to drive, an X1/9 was the only thing I could afford that met the criteria
. It also somewhat lacked the 150mph top speed that "super-cars" were achieving in the day, but hey, it was a foot on the ladder
. I thought I was the "bomb" though
, as I was also a homotorcyclist (TM J Clarkson
), with a Mk III RG250 Gamma as well
.

PMSL, class mike
My mate was obsessed with owning a "supercar" too so bought a Poker 928 V8 auto when he was 20, it had 180k on the clock, was slow as shit too
His Reno5Turbo was way faster
Then he put a aftermaket exhaust on it that made it sound like some big old V8 yank tank and really daft
So we laughed at him a lot
So he sold it
Doubt it was his first car, but i remember Ian (Racetek) saying when he was well young him n his mate used to own 6series bimmers and Jag XJSs with CAR PHONES (which new new as fuck back then
) and used to drive around thinking they were pimps or summat

That was my first car by the way
mine was a xr3i, reg E622YNO, drove that into a lampost drunk
then i bought i orion which i got turboed and never even ran right, the mechanic who was test driving it to find the problem and "sorted" it never done the valve collet on right and the fooker droped a valve on the M1 20mins after i handed over 500 quid for the job
then i bought a turbo van that was fookign rapid, that needed a new water pumop as was messed about with antoehr garage for ages till when i was going to luton to rop me mate off i seen a turbo van lookign the same as mine witha strange plate on it FLY past me on the M1 as a million miles a hour, my mate said it was deffo mine ( due to the orange beacon light on the roof
) adn as i was near the garage in luton who was working on it i thought i would prove it wasnt my car that done it for a 10 quid bet, went there and got told the guy was just test driving it now, i refused to leave justincase it was my car, 30 mins later the fooker turns up with my car with the funny paltes on it ( trade plates as the tax had expired they had it soo fooking long) and he was using it as a delivery van
, i took the van back and never fooking payed , i should have burn the place down
ahhhh the good old days, getting screwed by mechanics for all my money as i was young and never new what a alternator was
, roa water pump ect

My first car is my current car.
Series 2 rs turbo
Passed my test 2 years ago.
As soon as i passed went to see nearly every series 1&2 out there, so many dogs.
Ended up with a completely standard series 2 in Radiant Red, Mint 73kon the clock full service history 1 owner from new. Didn't stay standard fro long 57i, Scorpian 4" exhaust, Dumpvalve and stage 1 at tune all within the first day of owning it. Insurance was a killer at £2500. Worth it though

Lee,
After the Escort he has had (in order):
M3 Evo (yellow) - modified with Schnitzer wheels, induction kit, exhaust and suspension.
Audi S3 (yellow) - modified with 18" split rims and H&R coilovers.
Evo VI RSX (silver) - full "Extreme" (wheels, APs etc) mods to 350bhp.
Then he went for a periodof no car (mooching about in his Dad's Bently - the £250k one
, AMG Merc, Range Rover / Mum's Boxter S and brother's 911 GT2
).
He then got another Evo VI - this time the full Extreme version (with the horrible stickers etc
).
Finally, he got rid of that, as he wasn't using it enough and has gone back to mooching in the other cars again before he gets his dream car - Gemballa Porsche
.
Envious - yes, jealous no, as the bastard is a top bloke as well, so you can't even hate him for being so rich

i had a white ax gt lowered with white 15" compo mo's, cobra buckets and a nice 2 1/2" exhaust. I was going to put a vts motor in it but came to my senses and bought a series1 instead.
