Default xr3i mk4

Hi can anyone help? My project 88 xr3i was a perfect runner been in garage for approx 6 months, along with doing bodywork i decided to replace battery and run for a while. The car started perfect and then it seemed like when the choke shut off the engine spluttered and stopped now it just wont start. any pointers appreciated

not too sure of that mate but ive just had the same sort of thing with a 306 not sure if moisture got into the exhaust of fuel laying in it but that was like you said backfiring but once got it started was like the exhaust was blocked when i tried to rev it up, so left it to idle for about 20 mins and cleared itself out!

check the flap on the K-Jet metering head isnt seized, just stick your hand in and check it goes up and down.

on my old XR4i the metering heag got stuck once, it must have gone a bit manky. some WD40 and a few good pushes up and down cleared it
