was wondering what engine would be best for my mk4 escort.it had a 2l zetec on carbs in but thats blown up now so was wondering what would be quickest? a 2l zetec with a HO inlet or a escort gti engine as if im correct its a 1.8?
thankyou peter
thankyou peter
rs2000 most powerful standard (150bhp), 1.8 zetecs can make 150 bhp with tuning, different engine mounts needed for the i4 (rs2000 engine) 1.8 is same as any other silvertop where mounts are concerned
so would slot straight in where 2litre was

If the car was already Zetec converted, then 2.0 has to be the simplest option. I'd skip the 1.8 if you can, might as well fit the biggest engine possible. If you're staying NA, you need everything you can get to start with. Inlet wise, I doubt you'd notice much difference between the 130PS or 115PS inlets. I have heard people say that the 115PS flows better, but not sure how much truth there is in that.
RS2000 engine is worth considering. Believe it takes a bit more work to the engine mount, but it will go, and you can use the usual suspects of gearboxes from RS Turbos and the like, so no worries there. Also means 150bhp and 140lbs/ft out of the box. They seem to respond well to pretty basic modifications, and there's been plenty of engines producing in the region of 170bhp on a standard inlet and things. It's worth considering, given how cheap the parts are at the moment. That and they sound amazing when you give them some stick!

deffo go 2.0 silvertop with the RS1800 spec inlet side of things mate, as per our pm's and what twins said....as long as you get all the 130 spec stuff its the best out of the 3 in my opinion.
RS2000 engine bolts straight up to S2 box but rear mount takes a bit more work, plus you need to suss out an alternator set-up. Not sure its worth the extra aggro over the Zetec, however the I4 sounds mint
