Ok it sounds a strange question, but can you tax a car that has a current tax disc?

Say if your buying a car and the current owner takes the tax off to cash it in, can the new buyer then go to the post office with the green slip and tax it themselves as normal?

Cheers.

Why not just give the seller the cash-in value of the disc?

Yes it can be done, ive done it before, it just comes up on the screen at the post office/DVLA that its already taxed and they should ask if you are aware of that.

I'm sure the government will allow you tax a car as many times as you are willing to pay them for
