Got the car going yesterday for the first time in a year.. Ran sweet, no probs..
Thought Id take it for a blast tonight and the feckin thing just dies on my
Did notice the lights getting dim, so thought, here we go again
Started to head home, luckily was only a few mins, so tow was ok
Did notice yesterday, that when i turn the ignition on, the battery light wasnt lit up like it should be
So tonight, when just cruising at 30, it started to pop and mis fire then dead??
Now what would this be??
Seriously, when do you decide to cut your losses and just break the poxy old toot
I know they are not getting newer, but can see why i havent missed it really whilst i was away

Battery was BRAND NEW yesterday, but is flat now
Alternator was new before I went away.. it seems to eat the little f**kers
It ran with no probs yesterday, so seems abit weird it just does this
why would the battery light, not come on?

dont know if its same on RSTs, but theres a pissy lil blue wire that push fits onto the back of cossie alternators and always falls off, and when it does it dont charge the battery, bloody thing
I used to push blu-tack into the terminals to helo it stay in place

A Ford MUST have a battery warning lamp other wise it will not charge.
The basic circuit is a live ignition feed to the bulb. Then from the bulb it goes down that blue wire to the back of the alternator in which it gets it's earth. Once the alternator has been excited, the voltage will increase on the terminal which the blue wire is connected to, and basically block the return path to earth for the power flowing through the bulb.
You either have a fooked alternator, broken blue wire, bad connection or a blown bulb.
Simple test. Disconnect the blue wire off the alternator and short it to the engine block or similar earthing point. Switch on the ignition. If it comes on then you have a good circuit right up to the alternator meaning that the car is ok but the alternator is fooked. If it still doesn't come on then I suggest you try a bulb and then look at the wiring...

Westy check the earths from the chassis to the engine.
Had a problem with my run about where the lights would flicker and brought a new alternator and battery ended up th connectors were caked in shite. Took them off for a clean sanded the connections and volia.
Shame i'd spent over 100 quid on the battery n alternator when they weren't needed

hello im new on this site but a non charging rs is quite easy to fix with a bit of checking. make shore you have the same amount of volts going in to the back of the alt as the battery (big red wires) should be around 12v if so remove th little blue wire and earth it out dose the batt light come on if so alt is u/s all test are with engine not running. let us know what you find.

Krs - firstly, welcome to the site
gonna invest in a volt meter and bulb
Oranoco - Seems that the little blue wire causes probs?? Gonna replace it anyway, do fords still still the wire? Finis code? as imagine how much bother it will be at Fords
End up getting new headlights knowing them
Max - totally agree with what your saying.. having been in Adams Coss RWD, its lethal, dangerous and scarey
To early days for track
