Default Sump gasket kit question.

Just bought a sump gasket kit, there's two small rubber wedge type things included with it, does anyone know where they go? I can't see anything about them in my manual but thought perhaps they jam in round the sides of the bearing cap closest to the flywheel end? Also there's a white nylon washer and I don't know where that should go either. Anyone know?

You are correct, the wedges go down the gap between cap and block, so sit under the ends of the seal in the groove in the rear cap.

Thanks, do I need to remove the cap to fit them?

NO, after the cap is fitted they are pushed down the gap at the ends of the groove where the main seal goes, just a bit of extra security oil wise.

The wedges are only supplied with non-cossie pinto gasket sets. Standard cossie gasket sets don't use them.

That explains why I can't see anything about them in the manual then.
I was also wondering wether or not I should replace the crankshaft seals, the engine has been sat outside for the past 3 years (it's been covered over well and kept dry and turned over by hand regularly) but I'm not sure how well the seals hold up, thought they might have gone a bit brittle. They were only about a year old when I removed the engine from the car 3 years ago.
