i would imagine like most tdi stuff these days look out for DMF, DPF,turbo, and common rail problems.

depends what year, after 04 the waste gate is electronically actuated so they go wrong,if you dont fit original fuel filters these can flash a warning light and put the car in limp home mode.i have an o4 ghia estate, every month im buying something so its getting sold,64k,this month has had a wheel bearing, silencer box, heater control panel as that broke and the heaters didnt work, sidelight fuse.
it now needs a new set of speedo clocks as they stopped working after the car went into the oven after having a door painted and i replaced a spring about 2 months ago as 1 broke.
i wouldnt buy an older mondeo again, made of shit.great car when its working but i think id buy a petrol, maybe you get less mpg but how much fuel could you buy for the price of a set of injectors,a pump,a dpf,a turbo etc?more than what you would have saved in the amount of miles you get before it breaks

I have a 2007 st tdci and to be honest it's been great, as all cars they have there faults, wheels bearing specially the rear, handbrake cables, EGR valves, injectors, coil springs can snap,
overall my car has been fantastic with superb fuel economy

i went into my local motor factors for a bearing and an exhaust,£105 for a fag (lol) bearing and £65 for another make,or £37 delivered off ebay.the guy on ebay had sold 308 of them so they must be pretty common.
i was going to buy a newer mondeo titainium x sport estate, but with 2 dogs and a baby i really need something bigger.
they have their faults, some years are better than others but mine has been good so far engine wise*

See my boss had the older one and he now has a 58 plate new shape and since then he has said he will never have another mondeo. I have driven them both and i do reckon he is right in what he says.

But the newer one i think is a great looking car inside and out.

The st tdci ones have have the 2.2 engine and don't seem to suffer the woes of the 2.0 lumps. Obviously you need to check but other than the things that are common to all mondeos like handbrake cables and broke. Springs and subframe bushes there's not a lot that seems to go wrong with them

i bet there is no tdi mondeos in 20 years time, at least if a cossie develops a missfire it can be fixed cheaply by the roadside, a sierra is very basic and easy to keep reliable with a bit of maintainance, i can see a lot of these common rail electronic controlled everything cars ending up in the scrapyard at a very young age as it is soo specialized and expensive to fix even the smallest of problems now. my advice if buying anything like this would be to buy quite new with warranty.

i went into ford to see if i could get a set of speedo clocks for my 04 mondeo yesterday,£494.83!for a set of clocks, all thats wrong is an errant dry joint.a dpf is about 1k,fuel pump, prob not much change from 1k,turbo,£400,if the car is 8 years old and a pump and turbo go is it worth fixing?you could buy the parts 2nd hand but how long would you get before they go wrong.cars just arent made as good as they used to be,they dont rust as bad anymore but we managed for years and years without piezo injectors and common rail, they are good when they work but why cant they make them last longer?

Buy them off of eBay for a few quid as they are all known issues. Other than the injectors that you should buy new and from a reputable place.

In thing though, is there ablist of places that can officially code I jectors to the ecu? I understand why but when theblikes of a ford main dealer can get it wrong, where do you go?

I had an 05 plate one! Graet car in my opinion! Consistantly got near 50mpg and performance is great. Sagging rear bumper is an issue on all cars because ford never fitted the foam bumper supports that were fitted to the zetec s.
Well specced cars as standard, all mk3 mondeos seem to suffer from rear wheel bearing failure at some point, I had a few qoutes for my wife's zetec estate, Ford charge £205 each, SKF (who supply Ford) want about £100, I got them off ebay for £37 each, easy job to do as it's the whole hub you replace.
I don't think the 2.2tdci engine suffers from as many problems as the 2.0 lump and they respond well to tuning. Most are putting out more than Ford's quoted power figure of 155ps as standard anyway, a chip and larger intercooler, can see 190bhp easy.
