Default need a new career any ideas?

as above really after being laid off from my job working with commercials i'm having no luck finding another job in mechanics so was wondering if anyone had any advice on what other careers are there that are secure, relativly well paid (once qualified) and offer training aswell.any ideas would be taken on board i did have a think about having a go at hgv driving but havnt heard any good things about that just latley with lack of work etc and being only 20 cant do my test yet and no experience isnt going to do me any favours really is it. so any advice much appreciated

james.

i run an engine test department for a large supplier of fuel injection equipment to the commercial vehicle trade, we dont have any openings at the moment, (would be nice to get another technician, but oh well) but you could sign up with an agency likle matchtech that supply contractors to r&d sites such as millbrook and ricardo

with a little training you could command Ł17-18 an hour as a technician on a rolling contract, if you were looking at permanent staff at a technical centre, you'd be looking at between Ł22 and 27k.

Join the Army for a few years. Get your HGV licences.

Even when you are 21 and do your test you will struggle like hell to get a job as companies wont pay the insurance for some one under 25 as its beyond a joke. Then there is the problem of experience. No one will take you on with out any (but then how do you get it?). Only way then is agency work which is shite most of the time.
