Got no choice but to bail them out - if we don't the Euro would collapse and that could well trigger the complete collapse of the entire world economy.

There is no choice but to bail them out, same as Greece.

Its slightly annoying though as we pay millions into the EU any way to subsidise farmers and god knows what else then having to bail out a country that would only let us lot fall on our arse.

Load of crap!

I agree - we get royally shafted by the EU but the fact is we're in it and contribute. I feel we pay far more than we get out of it, but what do I know....

I agree with you. All i can see is a massive cost to be part of something that we are not really part of. All we get is bills to pay the EU and then stupid rulings from Brussels, things like emissions meaning Ford are binning the 5 pot engines). I would rather be a new state of the U.S thn part of Europe.

The only saving grace from it all is that the UK didn't adopt the Euro currency. That said, if the Euro did fail it's probable that nothing would protect sterling or the dollar....

If the Euro failed we would be up shit creek with out a paddle. Instantly turning into a 3rd world country if the economy collapsed I would of thought. Still have my xbox and porn stash so not all bad if it happened.

i am ashamed as a irishman today ,we have lost our soveirenty because of our totally inept and lying bastard politicians .unfortunatley the bond markets have put us in this position due to the germans ms merkel[sp]urging us to default on our senior bondholders.since she came out with this our interest rate has become un affordable.
This is a loan only with a repayment of 5%,the euro currencey is no good for ireland and only suits the germans and the french,if we had our own currencey we could devalue it and try trade our way out and to devalue the euro would fook up ze germans .

not a expert opinion ,just what ive picked up

anyway i think i have spent more on cossie bits from the uk in the last 3 years lol

luckily for the uk you can print your own currencey

I agree - to a point. We'll all end up worse off because of it as taxes will likely rise to fund it, so we will all end up paying one way or another but will we be asked for £15k or expect to pay £15k more tax each ? No. It'll be added the trillions worth of national debt we already have....

Indeed, we'll just keep getting more and more national debt till we get to the point that everyone else has to bail us out, then we'll get it all back again

what amazes me is we owe billions as a country and keep hearing about the amount of interest we are paying on our own countries debt, yet we are still giving money that apparently we don't have.

what a joke this is. Serves them right for taking the euro IMO. Shame about Ireland though, but what did they expect? The euro was doomed to fail. Giving Germany and greece same currency is a joke and would never have worked

Not the Irish public's fault mate....any more than it's our fault on the mainland. The blame for each country's woes lie with the idiots in charge chap....and by that I mean the policy makers in the Government and the greedy bankers who knew what they were doing, but wanted the fast buck so they could disappear off when it all hit the floor with their millions and not have to worry. I am always asked 'why' and the simple answer is this - there were too many people making too much money so everyone turned a blind eye to it all. I bet there were policymakers on the take as well. This is what happens when you let banks regulate themselves - they run riot with everyone else's money.

Tin foil hat, conspiracy time now

The EU want you to feel like that. They want to make sure you feel no pride for your country so you turn back to them, tail inbetween your legs. Just a theory mind, but makes sense

I know - we as a country would laugh if our hearts were not so heavy with the financial burden the last Labour Government has put the country in.

Whats the stats behind that figure, or have you just added up the headline figure and divided it in a spasticated way by the population?

No it wouldn't mate - as I said, if the Irish collapse so will the Euro. If the Euro does, so will in all probability the entire world economy. And yes, it really would be THAT serious.

We here in Ireland are a proud nation as I'm sure people in the UK are too. The vast amount of people here feel humiliated by what is happening here, Being bailed out by the IMF, EU & the UK. As countries its in both our interests that Ireland doesn't go even more down the Swanee as the UK and Ireland are the biggest trading partners with each other. For the last decade we have been led by a complete bunch of incompetent fools which included for the last number of years the Green party, Who were more interested in getting in they're tree hugging anti motorist policies rather than keeping their eye on the economy and the dodgy deals being done by the bankers. Our PM gets paid lots more than Cameron or Obama!!! An election is due soon and hopefully soon after a new government can take us back out of the shit we find ourselves in. Only 4 years ago we were the fastest growing economy in the EU. Over the years Ireland has always been generous to the less well off countries of the world and now that the situation has been reversed we are grateful. And BTW any money given to Ireland is on loan terms and would have to be repaid! Erin go Brach!

This is why countries should have different currencys So we dont go down together...

Although i realise that we should bail out the Irish.
