How soon can i tax my car?

As title, i am MOTing my car on friday, was just wondering how soon i could tax the car (starting from DEC) without loosing a whole months tax! will it have to be wed the 1st, or is there some leeway? thanks

Its on a sorn, thanks, thats what i had thought, shit system we have! loose four weeks tax for the sake of two days!

I sorn my car of the road and when i last asked at the post office they said bring in all your docs and you can do it 7 days before the new month.
Best thing is to ask at your local post office
