Default 1992 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth Build

Right, had this since August, and need to pull my finger out!!

It's a 1992, 4x4 sapphire cosworth. The shell has done 79,000 miles, and is originally from Bournemouth. Considering her age, she's not bad, however needs a bit of work.

This won't be a fast project, I want to take my time with this one, and do things right.

Any suggestions, advice, or comments are greatly welcome, as I'm new to this, and i'm only 21!!

Anyways.... I won't bore you with words! Here's some pictures!

Mikey.

This is when I first got her.

Then from the help of the guys at SCS she had front suspension and rolling in no time.

And drive 4 hours to get these hocks!!!

Yesssss! Can't believe how good they look!!! Good work

Hocks are the way forward!

I saw a white 3 door at ford fair, which had black hocks with anodised blue centre caps. It looked mint. I'm think of doing the same?!

looks like a good base, make sure you give it lots of underbody protection so it survives a long time, nice to see 4x4 getting looked after.

I'd keep it as standard looking as you can very few nice ones left, values for good ones going up. Whats it like inside headcloth and carpet etc? Would be nice to see the inside refreshed so in ten years it will still be nice and fresh.

miss my old 4x4 preferred it to my escos and 3 door even though it was only worth much less than either.

Thank you The underside will get a big clean up once i'm ready to put the engine and gear box in. I really want to take my time and do it properly!

I'm not going OTT on it, just want it looking tasteful! The leather is in pretty good nick! Head cloth is mint, carpets are mint, and seats are too! Steering wheel isn't great, but I have another one to put on. Will get some more pictures up, I have something called saddle soap, which is magic stuff on leather! So going to give it a clean on saturday.

I've always wanted a ecos! But a friend of mine who I bought this from, bought a 2wd, and I just fell in love with it!

Right, few updates!

I have bought some frs brembos, just need to pick them up which should be soon.

Got a few more pics of the car, and a few pics to show you what i've been up to! Work has been hectic, so not been able to do much!

Boot Liner is in

Cleaned the rear seats with 'saddle soap'. Have come up a treat!!

Bought a momo quick release steering wheel until I can find a nice 4 spoke.

Front seats being cleaned with 'saddle soap'

Got a collection of things to go on, air box which I bought for Ł20 Rear Bumper, and spoiler. And also a few interior parts.

J1mbo kindly leant me his axle grinder! Close of of the cut out front bumper before cutting the toe eye off.

After

Painted the strut tops gloss black to go with the theme of the car!

Attacked the engine bay, and ripped off the bulk head cover, and plastics. Thinking of putting a nice heat shield on.

Cleaned a bit more!

And lastly, had the idea about some air ducts to the brakes, and one to the airbox, and will feed them from the fog light holes, and below near the splitter.

J1mbo has unfortunately introduced me to zinc plating and carbon fibre! So this is about to get expensive

Hopefully will get the fronts brakes sorted soon, and will be getting my buffty on!!

Let me know what you think!

Little Update. Not too much going on right now because of christmas, so just cleaning things up a bit ready to clean up the underside

Back Panel, and lights off.

Front lights, and grill off, ready for some cleaning.

Bought a few little things over the last couple of weeks.

A new PAS tank bracket, some non genuine fog surrounds for the air ducts, some carbon fibre door handles, and was kindly given the carbon strut tops as a early christmas present from jimbo. What a star!

And some mint rear lights.

Dropped the petrol tank out to clean. What a lovely job! Will be cleaned up over christmas ready to powder coat in January.

Half way through cleaning the petrol tank.

and priming the pas bracket.

Hopefully in the next week or so I shall take off the front suspension, and paint the arches, hubs, and clean up the Koni's. Then when the brembos arrive, I shall get some brackets made to fit the hubs. I've also got a box of stuff ready to be zinc plated. Then hopefully by the end of january I should have a 200 block, and the engine should be underway.

Merry Christmas

Can you power coat cosworth tanks?

I know the rst ones have a plastic swirl pot inside that melts in the oven afterwards, so they have to be painted instead.

Not genuine ford ones (Circle pressed in the bottom), they have plastic inners.

Yes, Pattern ones (with the rectangle pressed in the bottom), they have steel inners
